Wonder what the odds are against two different John Tossell's marrying a Grace in the same area, just goes to show you never can be sure with Parish records  ???

Looking at a map of the area, the is a Tossell's Barton Wood right next to Charles in Devon.  I wonder if there is a connection between the Woods there and the Tossell family name from Charles.

May be a big coincidence but there appears to have been a family of Tossell's in Charles, which may be the aforementioned John:

William Tossell married Joan Webber 10 Apr. 1755, Charles, Devon

Hannah Tossell, xn 11 Jul 1758, Charles, Devon d. of Wm. & Joan
John Tossell, xn 7 Apr. 1762, Charles, Devon s. of Wm. & Joan
William Tossell, xn 18 Jun 1765, Charles, Devon s. of Wm. & Joan (bur. 18 Nov 1767)

Devon Lookup Requests / Baptisms in Loxhore, North Devon
« on: Monday 01 October 12 07:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have been trying to find the baptism of Thomas Tossell circa1803 in Loxhore, near Barnstaple in North Devon.

I have been using Transcribed on-line references, such as IGI site and Findmypast, however I have been unable to find his baptism.

Can anyone help find this baptism?

From census returns, Thomas gave his place of birth as Loxhore, and he contuinued to live there his whole life until his death in 1895 at the age of 91.

The man in question lived:

Snape Hill, Darfield (1887)
Church Street, Ardsley (1888)
Bedford's Buildings, Ardsley (1889-1894)
Little Hill, Ardsley (1894-1898)
Church Street, Ardsley (1898-1911)

From what I can see there were three mines in the area:

Darfield Main Colliery (sunk c1862)
Mitchells Main (sunk c1862)
Houghton Main (sunk c1878)

Not having local knowledge I can't appreciate which, if any, of the above he may have worked at.

Hi,

The Ardsley in question is the one near Darfield, Barnsley.

Not East Ardsley and West Ardsley, which are 22 miles away to the south-east, near Wakefield.

I would appreciate the thoughts of anyone who maybe worked or lived in the local area.

Thanks and Regards,
