She is on the 1851 census in Hempnall with mother Fanny and siblings William and Elizabeth.

Thanks for looking - where did these girls born in Hempnall get baptised!!!  :-\

I'm clutching at straws trying to find a Sarah Elizabeth Feltham, daughter of William Feltham, carpenter born in Hempnall in 1847, but I don't think there are any contenders for her in Hempnall baptisms, and I thought Sarah Quadling may be a possibility as she may be the grand-daughter of Feltham Quadling!?!

You never know!

Looking for a Sarah Quadling, want to find name and occupation of father if possible. She may well be the illegitimate daughter though of a Fanny Quadling.

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks so much for your help. I think if Sarah Quadling disappears from the census after 1851 it might be worth pursuing. Thanks.

It's all very confusing!?!

Now Robert Read is a carpenter!!!

The Sarah Feltham with Clara Taylor in 1861 is a 'nurse girl' - what does that term actually mean - that Clara was looking after her?

Could it be that Sarah Quadling became Sarah Feltham? Why would this happen? Could Robert Read have recommending her because his relation Sarah Alice Read was already working as Clara's domestic servant?

I feel I am never going to find out!

Is there no sign of the Quadling children on the 1861 census - William, Elizabeth and Sarah?

Thanks so much for the reply.

Norfolk / Brick wall reached: Feltham/Quadling of Hempnall

Hi

I've been banging my head against a wall for years with this one!

My great-great-grandmother Sarah Elizabeth Feltham (sometimes Elizabeth Feltham) is married in Ticehurst, Sussex in 1869. Census returns consistently give her birthplace as Hempnall, Norfolk and an age which would suggest an 1847 birthdate. She gives her father as William Feltham, carpenter on 1869 marriage certificate and the same on an 1887 marriage (father listed as deceased).

Birth registrations show no Sarah or Elizabeth Feltham or Feltom born in or around 1847 in Norfolk. I have looked at all William Felthams on 1851, 1861 and 1871 censuses and no carpenters.

Cannot find a right family on 1851 census. On 1861 census there is a Sarah Feltham as a nurse girl in Norwich, Norfolk in the home of Clara Taylor and her children, one of which appears to be called Felham Taylor! There is also a house servant called Sarah Alice Read, born in Hempnall.

Now, I have lately found two Felthams in Hempnall but with first names! Feltham Quadling and Feltham Youell, who is the son of John Youell and Maria Quadling (witness to the marriage John Taylor)!

There is a Fanny Quadling, widowed and a pauper, living in Hempnall in 1851 with a daughter called Sarah who is born in 1847 and a son William and daughter Elizabeth. In 1881 Fanny is a domestic servant for Robert Read!

All these names keep appearing and reappearing!

Could Sarah Quadling have become Sarah Feltham!?!

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Where is Fanny Quadling and children on the 1861 and 1871 censuses? Is William Quadling a carpenter! Am I clutching at straws! If Sarah is with her on either then this is another dead end for me!

Any help with Hempnall baptisms or shedding any light on this greatly appreciated!!! :)

Thanks,

Mark

Thank you so so much for this, the baptisms at Sculthorpe match exactly with the ages of the Jacksons marrying in Warham All Saints!

Thank you  ;D
