Clever work!  Well done.  How about the 1841 census for parents - Downham or Worksop?  Thanks

As a bonus for anyone else watching this.  I found Mary McKenzie in 1881 living with Lucy Barratt, and a host of servants in Sheffield.

I do have this info thanks, several Agnes M'ckenzies in Sheffield and thus my error in the beginning.
I would like to find young John McKenzie, 17, on the 1851 census in Worksop
Parents are probably John and Sarah and John senior was most likely a watchmaker.
Did he have brothers and sisters?
Many thanks for this roller

Thank you again, this is wonderful.  It might be interesting to find out what kind of hospital the East Sussex was to see why he was there.  Happy New Year

Thank you so much, you have cracked it.  3 year old Agnes was married in Downham Market in 1878 so that is a definite connection with Worksop John.  Forget Scotland!  So please can you give me the full census details of the family in 1861 and 1871 - Hopefully there will be a Kate or Mary Kate in the family by then.  You have no idea how much I appreciate your help in getting me back on the right rails.
With thanks, Charley

Please can you help me to find John McKenzie born 1835 in Scotland, a watchmaker living in Eccleshall Bierlow, Sheffield.  He had a daughter
Agnes 3 years old.  I have been on the wrong track so I'm not sure of his wife's name.
Many thanks

Thanks, but it was John Edwin Hartley who was born out of wedlock, his mother Ann Hartley was daughter of Stephen Hartley.  I am trying to find out what happened to Ann after the 1861 census.  she vanished without trace.  Thanks in anticipation

Ann Hartley had a child out of wedlock, John Edwin Hartley b 13 April 1852.
in 1861 census he was living with his mother in Cowcliffe, Huddersfield.
in 1871 census he was with his mother's sister, Rachel Charlesworth also Cowcliffe, Fartown Huddersfield.
After 1861 it seems that Ann Hartley vanishes off the face of the earth - no death, no marriage etc.
1891 census, John Edwin Hartley had an Ann Brown, widow, aunt, on his census record - was she really an aunt or was she his mother who had married?
Any help on Ann Hartley born 1828/9, would be extremely welcome.  Many thanks
Charley
