Australia / Hilston’s Station
« on: Sunday 15 March 20 12:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
I’ve hit a brick wall.

I am looking for a property. Called Hilston’s Station I think it’s in NSW but could be wrong. I believe it is a property and not a railway station as my ancestor was a threshing machine operator. This information comes from a dead letter notice in the paper in 1879. Unfortunately this is all I have.

Thank you in advance.

Trish :)

Ive just come home from the family search centre.

I worked out that this Johann Conrad is the Conrad Vorbach who died in the US in 1876.

I am a bit disappointed I thought I was onto something but at least this rules it out that this isn't the record of my Conrad.

I still don't understand why John's son would say that his grandmothers name was Elizabeth but I guess he could of just thought it was  :-\

I doubt you will find a record of him arriving in the UK.

Did find this;
https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/passengers/

Thanks ill have a look at the link.

The other thought I had was to try and find the death notices for the parents or even the siblings and see if they say anything such as John Vorbach (Australia).

Hi all,

I have a copy of the marriage certificate.

Unfortunately it does not have his mother's name

It gives his name, that he was of full age (was hoping it would give a number), that his father is William and that he is also a farmer.

The witnesses seem to be friends not any relation that I can tell.

So I am not really sure where to go from here in regards to finding a record of him coming to England. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

So possibly the other one went to the USA?

Sorry which other one?

Sorry I understand what your meaning now haha yeah it’s possible I guess. I just need to be able to link Johann Conrad with leaving Germany for the UK.

The church marriage record would not have any more information than the marriage certificate.
Do you have a birthdate to compare?

I’ve only got a year from his death certificate. So he died in 1901 aged 74 which makes his birth about 1827.

It would be great if I could see an image of the baptism record and also image of their marriage.

Trish :)

The ‘other’ one
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N52X-7YY

Conrad Vorbach 28th November 1826
Birthplace - Nieder-Weisel
Parents Wilhelm Vorbach and Cathrine Lander

I’m thinking it’s the Johann Conrad Vorbach one. But that’s only by going on what the death certificate said
