Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / Re: James MOORE birth - Jersey

Truly appreciate the help, Stewart.

The earliest census reference I have for James (1805+/-) is the one from 1851 where he is with his second wife Grace and two children, the oldest from an earlier marriage.

Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / James MOORE birth - Jersey

Hello,

I am looking for the birth and first marriage of James Moore birth abt 1805 in Jersey.

In the 1851 census [HO 107/2179], place of birth appears to be Jersey.  I cannot read the place of birth for either him or for wife Grace (second wife).  See attached. He married Grace in 1847 in Liverpool.

Any insight greatly appreciated!

I live overseas and have sent for certs using my credit card.  Never had a problem with fraudulent use.  It is really never recommended to send cash through the mail.

As for protecting your accounts, some credit card companies use a secure verification process and the only way it can be used is to input a passcode.  Another thought is to have one credit card just for your genealogy.  You could set up verification information other than the traditional questions usually asked.  That's what I do.  In any event, the information is out there if someone really wants to find.  We can make more difficult though by setting up whatever barriers we can.

Hi-I found this

Frank Henry Driver / 25 / b abt 1893/ departed New York, arriving in Liverpool  23 Feb 1918.  The name of the ship was St Paul, the shipping line name was American Line.  His occupation was listed as farmer.  The country of last residence was listed as Canada, intended residence was listed as England.

There are other Frank Drivers listed, but two have a wife Louise, the others have a wife named Minnie.

Regarding the Certificate of Arrival document

I have my GF Naturalization records which include

Declaration of Intention and on the reverse side of that document is the
       Certificate of Arrival.

Petition For Naturalization and on the reverse side is the Oath of Allegiance

The Declaration of Intention as well as the Petition for Naturalization contain biographical information of the applicant as well as point of departure and arrival to the US, date and manner of arrival.  I am fortunate that mine also contains a photo of my GF.

According to the website http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/naturalization/

"Generally pre-1906 naturalization petitions have little biographical data. Naturalization records after September 25, 1906, generally include: the address of the person naturalized, the city of birth, occupation, immigration information, and the names and birthdates of spouses and children. Occasionally records from the 1930's and 1940's have a photograph on the Declaration of Intention. In the early 1960's, the recording of the names and birthdates of children was discontinued. "

These documents are available for a fee .  You can go to their website to find out how to obtain the documents.  You need to know where he was living to determine the correct district.

If he had a social security number you can, for a fee, request a copy of the application.  See About.com http://genealogy.about.com/od/online_records/a/ss5_request.htm on how to request a copy.

Good luck
