World War Two / Re: Family of the Crew of Sunderland DW110
« on: Saturday 17 May 08 03:01 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for that info Dave,  I have been in contact with the Newspaper in Canada where one of the crew came from and they are most helpful and are doing an article on DW110, and suprise suprise today I got an answer through Ancestry site of the family of Trull - and they live now in Ireland - they had no idea about the site and are now going to make a pilgramige to it in the future.  So two down only 8 more to go. Gillingham is the hardest - I cant find him on BMD or his family or even on Census, Electroral roles or anything.....it is as if they never existed, we have tried putting an advert in the local paper that has had no response, I have also searched here on the board for "Gillinghams" and sent the info to a couple of people - but will have to wait and see. They never even claimed his body which is strange too, as most of the others went "home" except the Canadian which is not unusual.

Will let you know how I get on - thanks for your interest in my/our project

World War Two / Family of the Crew of Sunderland DW110
« on: Friday 16 May 08 11:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I am the cousin of one of the pilots of DW110 F/O M V Wareing.
I am looking for any family members of the crew of Sunderland DW110 which crashed in the BlueStack Mountains in Ireland in 1944. I am particularly looking for the following: Flt Lt Howard Charles Armstrong, from Carlisle, Flt Lt Maurice Leonard Gillingham from Surbiton in Surrey, Sgt Cyril Robinson Greenwood form Salford, Flg Sgt John Ernest Parsons from Keynsham, Flt engineer Frederick Tom Copp of Starcross Devon and  Flght Lt (Nav) Joseph George Trull of Uley. We know where they are all buried etc.
I know most of their forces history etc and as the 65th Anniversary approaches I just thought it would be nice if some of us could contact each other and the people of the BLueStack Mountains who look after the memorial site. I have all the info from Dennis Burke and others about the crash, now we are trying to trace the families.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am looking for any family members of M.L. (Peter) Gillingham his father was Frederick Morris (Maurice) Gillingham and his Mum was Florence Matilda Gillingham. Peter was Flight Crew on Sunderland Flying boat DW110 and we are trying to trace familys no matter how distant. They lived in 1944 at 8 Kevin Grove, Hook Rd, Surbiton, along with Eileen Florence and Joan and Peggy Gillingham. 1946 Electroral Reg. has Joan Maurice F and Peggy Gillingham listed, there is a Frederick Gillingham listed in the Street director and electroral register at 34 Frimley Rd Chessington from 1954 to 2007 I wonder if there is a connection.  Any onw know anyone looking for Gillinghams

Devon / Frederick Tom COPP

Hi I am investigating the crew of my cousins Sunderland seaplane DW110, of 228 Sqdn, Coastal Command,  which crashed in Ireland in 1944. One of the crew members was Flt Engineer Frederick Tom Copp, his parents were George and Rose Ellen of Starcross Devon. He is buried in Ireland in Irvinestown Church of Ireland Churchyard. There has been a memorial set up on the site in the Blue Stack Mountains (something I only just learnt about) and after talking to the guys over there it seems that they have no contact with the families apart from Jim Gilchirst the only survivor who died this year on the exact date of the crash 31 Jan.  As it will be 65 years ago next year since this plane crashed I was wondering if there was anyone out there that was in anyway connected to the family. I have not been able to locate any of the family looking for these people on Ancestry, so I thought I would try here, you have always been so clever:-) As I live in NZ its a bit far to come and do too much digging so I have to let my fingers do it.

Susana

I am an ex parishioner of Erdington Abbey (St Thomas and St Edmund of Canterbury is its correct title) The Rector there is very helpful I needed to get details of my Grandparents marriage and he emailed it to me from the Parish Records. The other Catholic cemetery is at New Oscott some of our relatives were buried there.  What were your relatives names as my family and I were long time parishioners and I know a great many of the family names and also am "linked" to several of them - although I am now in NZ I am of the older age group and may be able to help.

Warwickshire / Birmingham Mail and Post
« on: Thursday 15 November 07 11:02 GMT (UK)  »
I want to find out where one of my recent ancestors fits in, I am going from memory that he was the Editor of the Bimringham Mail and Post in 1940/50's, his name was Clem (I presume Clement) Smallwood.  I know he was part of the extended family and I went to his office at the Post and Mail and he was always referred to as Uncle Clem (no he was not "adopted uncle) perhaps someone has a link to his obituary in the Paper, I have no idea when he died he was still alive when I left UK in 68 but had retired I think. Any help would be appreciated.

I dont know if this is any help but I was born and bought up in Erdington and I know the Almshouses well, there were still there in 1993 when I was last home, they are still maintained and owned by the Josiah Mason Trust, one of my gt aunts lived in one of the refurbished houses.  I believe that the ones in Station Rd were to be demolished to make way for a new road, but not sure about that as family all moved out here in 1994.

I know but we have to start somewhere and that seemed to be a logical place to start, as you say there are so many Kellys its just not feasible to get everyones b/c, may be a start may not who knows what it will turn up.

Thanks for your help anyway.
