Yorkshire (North Riding) / Adam Robimson Kemp
« on: Saturday 30 April 05 22:18 BST (UK)  »
Are you a realtive of Adam (Robinson) Kemp, possibly living in the Harrogate area where I think he went with his brother George Kemp to find work back circa 1861-71 period?  I have an ongoing research project into the Kemp/Taylor/Bonner/Orth/Hawkins family in Middlsbrough/Ainderby Quernhow/Kilburn/Branham Park/Escombe/Southport/Everton/Llandudno/Kirby Fleetham/Hornby areas.  Kemps married Bonners and Taylors and Orth's and Robinson's in these areas.

Bonners moved from Westoning Bedfordshire to Walsall, then Escombe then South Hylton then Middlesbrough.

Sarah Smith born Lichfield became Sarah Bonner md Joseph Bonner then he died so she became md to Emil Orth, born Switzerland, Naturalised British Subject and gas lamp lighter in Middlesbrough.  Could you be related to Emil Orth??

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Middlesbrough Workhouse
« on: Saturday 30 April 05 22:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am seeking images/photos of the old Middlesbrough workhouse and the Middlesbrough Infirmary.  I am arlready aware that some student may ave done a project on this particular workhouse and the fact that its mentioned on a website on the hisotry of workhouses but there arent any photos of it to be found on the net or in the archives there so I am pleading for someone out there in the area who may just have some from years ago in family photos etc.

My reason is finding a relative who worked there as a portress in one of the census.
Eagerly waiting......
Thanks ???

Maybe she remarried?  I would cross reference your information with Tees Valley Indexes website, then www.ancestry.co.uk then the BMD website, between the three sites you may come up with an alternative.  Sometimes we just have to spend that £7 on the certificate to get the next step.  Is it worth the risk if it answers the question, others sell unwanted certificates back on ebay and other sites.

Have you also considered the Linthorpe Cemetery website information as there are many names up on the site.  There are also other cemteries in the Middlesbrough area, maybe you have the wrong cemetery as I understand there is a New Linthorpe cemetery so there must be an old one somewhere?

I would certainly HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Tees Valley Indexes to anyone, it has helped me locate many family Kemp/Bonner/Taylor/Orth relatives in Middlesbrough and I now have 22 different house addresses to go at thanks to their site!

The service is FIRST CLASS and the staff are very helpful.
Certificates can be on the doorstep the very next day!

If you have any relatives in the Tees Valley area this site is a must and so easy to use.

A big thanks to all the staff at Tees Valley Indexes and a great initiative.

Staffordshire completed Look up Requests / Re: Tunstall - Baptisms

Peter I think you would have two options at this time either St Margarets at Wolstanton, the main parish church or St James Church at Newchapel.

Another alternative maybe St Johns at Burslem, hope this helps.
My interests are Turnock and Tunstall family names but have linked 65 families to these, Gareth

Staffordshire / Re: Tunstall - the name..not the place

I am currently researching the Tunstall family in Oldcott/Goldenhill and have several Latin/Greek/unusual family names - Spencer William Norton Tunstall, Valentine Gilbert Norton Tunstall, Benedicta, Henrietta, Oriana, Octavia, Percival, Herbert, Frederick, William, Georgiana, Felicia, Septimus and others.  Any connections?
Most Tunstall family from Burslem seem to have occupation of crate packers.

Have done some research of Wards History of Stoke on Trent.  Our Thomas Tunstall Esquire, his sons William and James Tunstall are mentioned in Victoria County History of Staffordshire.

Is this the same Allen family where our Lucy Turnock appears in a census as a servant?
