Really? thats great.
To be honest,I didn't even think of asking them because most libraries seem to require a visit in person.I'll get right on to it.
Thanks :)

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Tonbridge obituaries 1908
« on: Thursday 07 July 05 08:27 BST (UK)  »
I would like advice please on where I would find newspaper records for Tonbridge.
I am presently trying to trace my SEALE family & am having some
difficulty locating the children of a JOHN & ANN  SEALE, who lived with their
daughter ISOBEL in the High Street,Tonbridge. In the 1861 Census, they have a Grandaughter KEZIAH FINCH living with them & and in the 1871 Census,a granddaughter CAROLINE FINCH.
ISOBEL SEALE never married,so these grandchildren indicate that she must have had at least one sister.MyownGrandmother ELSIE LADE (nee SEALE) said there was an obituary in the newspaper when ISOBEL died in 1908.
What I would like to know is whether there are archives of the
Tonbridge newspapers and if it is possible to look up this obituary,as I am
told it mentioned several of her relatives as well as information about
her.She was well known in Tonbridge as the hat maker for Tonbridge School
for over 50 years.
Any assistance gratefully received

Thinking about the above information-it now puzzles me that the house is not a listed building if it is that old ???though I suppose it may not be the original.

Thanks Kerry
That clears up some confusion for me .One of my elderly aunts told me Grandma worked at Buckles, the other insisted it was Hollyhurst.Seems they were both right :)

Thanks to all of you. Thanks Andrea, if it really is not too far away, I can wait-there is absolutely no urgency. It sounds like Rod has enough to be going on with.I will certainly let you know if I obtain the picture somehow in the meantime.Really appreciate all the help & advice.

Thanks again Andrea.I have looked at Genuki as you suggested & found a site with photos of listed buildings in the UK.Believe it or not, there are 136 buildings in Buwash/Burwash common, but not "Buckles" :(I found the garden directory-something called the yellow book?private gardens open once or twice a year. Also went back to Sussex Weald & found Hollyhurst mentioned in a book written around 1830,so am amazed it is not listed if still there.I also found out all about the previous residents :the Misses Trower, who were instrumental in getting the church built.on the 1881 census they employed 4 servants & there were 3 cottages on the property as well.Sooooo -you could say I'm getting to be quite an expert on this blooming place-just need a picture.Do you think it would be rude of me to write to these people?

My first time on this board,so apologies if my request is not appropriate.
I am wondering if anyone with local knowledge of Burwash Weald/Common can advise me where I can get information or a picture of a place called either Hollyhurst or Buckles in this area?
My Grandmother was in service there in the early 1900's,working for a family named Kerr.I have tried various searches on the internet, but haven't been able to come up with more than the church & the pub!.I did have a look on A2A ,but am not certain that the information I found there would include photographs.Does anyone have any ideas of where else to try?Obviously it in not imperative because the property was not in the family, but even a photo of Burwash Common would be nice :)Assuming she started work at around 14,she would have been working there round about 1912-18,her name was Elsie Seale, born in Dartford in 1898.She said the name of the place was Hollyhurst, though I think it changed to Buckles in the 1930's.It was somewhere between Burwash & Ticehurst,I was told.
