Hi Casalguidi,
I was just about to contact you again as I re-read your previous posting. I realised after I sent my last message that
you were actually saying that the Malta connection was doubtful. Indeed, my Malta contact actually told me that she thought William Henry's father was William Henry but discounted this when she found the records on familysearch.org which specifically gave the full names of both parents as Henry Lampard and Sarah Rogers. She just assumed that William Henry senior was known as Henry. There are two separate records for William Henry Lampard (junior) on family search.org the first one shows his date of birth and his parents' names and then there is another record which actually shows William Henry(junior) together with 2 of his siblings and all three are shown as children of
Henry Lampard and Sarah Rogers.
As I mentioned before, the entries for these particular individuals are not supported by microfilm so there is no way of checking which ones are right.  If I discount William Henry, do I discount the other 2 siblings?
I am in a quandary now. I don't want to go further back and
compound any errors I've already made.

Thanks to both bearkat and casulguidi for the updates.
Well, casulguidi, you have given me the information I feared! William Henry Lampard born in Malta is definitely the son of Henry Lampard and Sarah Rogers, which means "my" Henry must belong to a
different Henry and Sarah. I am gutted!
Luckily I had only gone back a couple of generations with this wrong assumption in place so I haven't gone too far down the wrong track.
All I've got to do now is find another Henry and Sarah who were married around the same time.
I really appreciate the efforts you have made on my behalf and will let you know if I turn up anything.

Hi bearkat,
I think I'm going to look at the findmypast site next. Thank you so much for all your help today.
If I find anything out I will let you know.

Hi bearkat,
Yes I know about the other children. I have several ancestors who have had their children baptised at that
particular church so that's what makes the whole thing frustrating. I think it was because of the link with the
church which has turned up when I have been tracking other members of the family that was why I linked
"my" Henry to Henry Lampard and Sarah Rogers. Henry and Sarah were married in 1819, were in the right
area and, as you say, had other children baptised in the right place. It was tempting to make the connection and if it wasn't for this other researcher tracking down William Henry Lampard born in Malta, I would have been
quite happy with the information I had.
Incidentally, the Malta connection was also gained through familysearch.org and, once again, is not supported
by microfilm. My Malta contact says she has been unable to trace a birth certificate for her ancestor either!

Hi bearkat,
Thanks for the info.
So, if I can't apply for a birth certificate is a personal visit to Rainham the only option?
Also I noticed on familysearch.org that they have given a name and address for the submitter of Henry's Ancestral file. Do you know whether submitters are just transcribers or are they people who are
researching their own family tree? If the latter, I could write to this person to see where they got
information from.
Incidentally, both the 1851 census and the familysearch record show place of birth as Rainham

Hi bearkat,
No I do not have any certificates at this stage. I have only been doing my family research for about 3
months and have gained a lot of my info from ancestry uk, familysearch.org and freebmd.
Because of links with various sites and censuses and different researchers who have matched on my tree I know that the Henry married to Caroline is definitely my ancestor. It is going back past that time where I am having difficulty. So the only records I have found so far are the census details I provided
and the entry on familysearch.org which I am a bit dubious about.
I am happy to apply to GRO for birth certificate, but as I am unsure of the date I don't know if that's possible. I was under the impression that if you give a date of birth GRO will only check 1 year either
side. Is that right? In which case presumably I would have to make 2 applications, 1 for 1823 and 1 for 1826. But theoretically his birth could be anywhere in between because I know that the census records
only approximate dates of birth anyway.
I would appreciate your advice
Thanks
Lynda

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Henry Lampard born 1823

Hi, I am new to this message board so please bear with me if I have "posted" in the wrong place or have not given sufficient information.
I am trying to trace parents of Henry Lampard born in Rainham Kent. I found an Individual Record on familysearch.org which gives details of an Ancestral file. (No microfilm details supplied). This states that Henry was born in 1823, father Henry Lampard (no mother's name given) and married to Caroline Barnaby 10 Aug 1844 Strood Kent.
I can also find Henry on 1851 census, married to Caroline. HO107/1609,Folio 495, page 17, On the census his date of birth is again shown as around 1823.
I cannot find any other definite matches to Henry either before his marriage to Caroline or after 1851.
There is a possible match for Henry in 1841 census where head of household is the mother, Sarah.
HO107, piece 491,book 10, 8A Folio 11 Page 17 Line 16
I had previously linked Henry to parents Henry Lampard married to Sarah Rogers and if this is correct it is possible that his father had died by the time of the 1841 census and Sarah was a widow.
However, I have now been contacted by another family researcher which shows that another of Henry and Sarah's children was born in Malta in 1823 so either my dates of birth are wrong or my
parents are wrong in this case.
I have been told that familysearch records cannot be relied upon if they don't specify microfilm numbers. I have looked on Cityark and cannot find a birth record for Henry in either 1823 or 1826
so I don't really know how to establish what to do next.
Can anyone offer any advice?
