Family History Beginners Board / Please help - Jeremiah & Comfort Crowther Staffs UK
« on: Sunday 07 January 18 23:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,

I just wondered if anyone might recognise these names please. I have hit a brick wall trying to find details about Jeremiah's father, mother and siblings.

Jeremiah was born 1848 and possibly died 1924 in the Wolverhampton area (Dudley/Bilsdon Wolverhampton dept on records). I think he was a Wesleyan Baptist??

He married Comfort Devney 22/Feb 1869. His father is listed as Joseph. Jeremiah stays in the area apart from 1881 when he is found in Wales. He is an Iron Roof errector/galvinzer by trade as was his son Albert Arthur so perhaps his father Joseph was too??

Jeremiah had a glass eye and I wondered if anyone might know how he got this? His grandson Via daughter Ann Florence was Sir Charles Wheeler.

If anyone else is researching this tree and knows anything about Joseph (or Jeremiah) or can help in any way I would be really grateful.

Thanks for reading my post :)

Dear Cas, Jool and Cath,
Thank you all so much, you have really helped to solve a complete mystery that had had us stuck for ages.
I am learning (slowly!) how to research and am really appreciative of you not only sharing your knowledge but also taking the time to help me out.
I can't wait to share this with my family over Christmas.
All the best to you and yours
Em :)

Family History Beginners Board / Myres Staffordshire/Warwickshire Betsey

Hello,

I just wondered if there might be someone who could help me please with an ancestor called Betsey/Betsy Myres dob 1829/1830 Birmingham.

I have copied what I know about her below, I can't find her marriage to Isaac anywhere, or her death, it is as if she vanishes, I have tried variant given names including Elisabeth and Elizabeth. In 1851 she and Isaac have a daughter called Betsey (jnr) and I can find no trace of her in future census records, they also have Betsy's daughter Ann Boyde (whom she had at 13, I am not sure if Boyde is Betsey's maiden name or that of Ann's father) she also vanishes after 1851 - no death registration for either. I can't access the 1861 census where they are at township city Worcestershire England so am not sure if the 2 girls have gone by then. I wonder what happened to Betsey, Betsey and Ann. Isaac is with a Margaret in 1871.

The Myres family are a bit mysterious. Sadly when my great grandma was a little girl, her parents split up.
Many members of the family end up in Canada over time, I am not sure who went first. Maybe the vanished people ended up there?

An Arthur E Myres/ A E Myres goes to Quebec in 1909 and 1912 on the  Virginian and Teutonic respectively (not sure if they are the same person). On the 1912 journey he is with an '?? Myres Born ??' - this could be the boy taken (or an illegible entry that couldn't be deciphered on digitising). I have been told he might have been called Chris but I am not sure and I can't find a registered birth for a Myres boy in Staffordshire between 1900 and 1910 that seems to fit the bill, maybe he wasn't born in Staffs like most of the others.

Besty's son Isaac had an Isaac Myres born 1858, who had Arthur Edward Myres (known as Edward) in 1880, who had my g.grandma Florence Maud Myres in 1900 with Louisa Palmer.

Hi Gortonboy,

Wow, thank you so much. We had hit a real wall and had been trying to work this out for ages. I had never found birth records or census records relating to him until he got married. Turns out we were looking in completely the wrong place and without knowing anything about his Navy service, we would still be stuck.
I can't thank you enough.
Have a wonderful day and thank you for taking the time to search for this for me, I really appreciate it.
Best wishes,
Emjsw :)

Hello,

I wonder if anyone can help me please? This is a picture of my great-grandfather George W Hope (I can't find his birth certificate but he got married in Woodstock Oxon 1925. I have attached a picture of him from 1918 in his Navy uniform, I know the quality is not good but can anyone work out what ship he was on from his hat please. I think it is HMS Au..... and then I can't read the rest. I thought it was the St Austell but this was launched in 1944.
If anyone can help that would be amazing and I thank you. If anyone else is researching him I will happily share what I know.

Best wishes
:)

I have been researching my family tree and have just discovered I am related to Mary Ann Smith (Daughter of Spencer Draper Smith and Annie Smith), she married William Cosby. I noticed that you have an interest in many people that I have discovered I am related to as well, which is why I contacted you to say hello, I hope you don't mind? I am really new to all of this, in fact this is my first ever post!!! I think the Cosby's might have connections to Ireland but I am not sure!
I don't know much yet about the Drapers/Smiths yet but am starting to learn. If anyone is interested in the Cosby family I am happy to share what I know.
Best wishes  :)
