i think that the two young women were sisters possily Bethune's
christina bethune born 1868, margaret bethune born 1871, isabella bethune born 1876 they went to the Falkland isles in 1880 but did come back to britain before finaly leaving the falklands for good in 1898. let know what you think their ages were and would they fit in with the dates.
thanks for your help and welcome to the new kid on the block nwr

hi people had a think about n.b. and it was use in the 19th century as a early attept at postal code N.B. stood for north britain but was droped as it was often mistaken for N.8. a london post code and the mail had to be redirected making it late.  the two young women at first i thought were the same person but i now think they might be sisters whats everbodys thought on this.

I think we're into the early 1880's with this one but she now has a small bustle which was making a comeback at this time.
Her hair is in the chignon style but lower on the back of her head.
The pose & backdrop are typical of the 1870's as is the coloured cardstock so probably quite close the 1880 mark.
The back may give us a bit more detail.

Hello & welcome to the board.
Late 1870's & possibly into the v.early 80's as this style did cross over.
The round cornered cardstock puts this post 1875 so concurs with the date.
In this you can see a posing stand at the back of the girls legs, not normally seen by this time so Stewart must have had a problem keeping her still.
For dating always show the back as well as this helps us to help you,so if you have it can we see it?
Lovely photo.

jim
thanks for your reply i am waiting for copy of the back coming from canada will let you see it when it comes. i think the girl was born 1870 if i have guessed correcty who she is she looks about 12 dating it about 1882 would that fit in with what you think.thanks nwr

I have some photographs taken in Elgin Morayshire 1850-1910 as carte de viste they have no dates or names on them although they do have the photographers names on them. can any body help me tie down a narrower year range for the style of card.
