Hello all,
I have recently followed my family history, through the surname Thompson, living around Durham in the 1850's and onward.
Specifically, following my paternal line, I have discovered a William Thompson (circa 1854) living at 20 Grahamsley, Crook & Billy Row, Durham, in the 1881 Census, together with his wife Ann (circa 1855), who is noted to have been born in Monaghan, Ireland.
The 1871 Census also names three children, Sarah (circa 1876), Mary Ann (circa 1879) and Catherine (circa 1881). However, on review of their GRO Index results, the mother's maiden name is different for each child.
Also, there doesn't seem to be any record of a marriage between a William Thompson and any of the registered maiden names for each of his children. I only know, through searching the GRO for children listed in subsequent census' that William maries again in 1982 following the death of Ann in 1891.
Unfortunaltely, Ann's death certificate does not list her maiden name or parents, so I am finding it a challenge to research this line of the family any further.
William was a coal miner at North Pit Colliery throughout 1891 - 1911, as per the census'. I only know, from his marriage certificate of 1892, that William's father was John Thompson who is marked as deceased.
I seem to have exhausted the GRO and Census options, and would really appreciate any guidance which could help with any of the above...I have also attached my tree to this for more information
Fingers crossed and thank you in advance for any help
