Thanks Monica....This is the right family!  I never knew for sure, but with this info I can piece some info together.  Just learned from a small family reunion that it was only Elizabeth Kirkpatrick that came from Dumfries, Scotland.  I'm sure the Currie's were from Scotland too, but can't seem to find out their origin.  I have on good authority, that James Currie's parents and a sister are buried close to a beach in West Point, PEI...this is a shame because the cliffs are eroding and they headstones could be now.  I might just have to make a trip up there to find out more info.  Thanks again!

Wow!  Thanks for looking in the first graveyard.  I hope you will have better luck in the other.  I didn't realize they were so large!  It's a shame that the headstones get so worn.

Sorry that I haven't written sooner....been on vacation to PEI and had a small family reunion with a few "Adams"...was great to meet some new relatives.

Dumfriesshire / james Currie and Elizabeth Kirkpatrick

Looking for information on either/both James Currie and Elizabeth Kirkpatrick.  I have information that suggests that Elizabeth Kirkpatrick was born in the county of Hoddom in the parish of Dumfries possibly around 1800 (I'm sorry if I got this wrong, this information is coming 2nd hand.)  Elizabeth's surname could have been Fitzpatrick instead of Kirkpatrick.  I know that James and Elizabeth had one child named Joseph b 1827, but they probably had more children.  They moved to Prince Edward Island, Canada sometime before 1846.  Joseph married Janet (possible Jennet or Jane and her possible surname is Currie as well.)

If anyone can help with this family line, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again!

Hi Bill

I have Richard Adams (b 16 Sept 1688) and unknown were the parents of John Adams (b 1734, d 1815) and then Richard's parents were Thomas Adams (b 1662) and Joane Ashery (marriage 05 Sept 1686).  I also recall there was someone married to a Mary Yates, but I can't seem to find my notes on her and I don't have her entered into my family tree program.  How does this information relate to what you have?

Are you descended from John Adams and Elizabeth Wright or from 2nd wife Sarah Harrison?   I have a picture of the headstone and inscription of John Adams 1734-1815 and wife Sarah's headstone and inscription from New London, PEI, Canada.  If you are interested let me know and I will send them to you...

Hello, I am looking for information on Adams surname that lived in Hilton, Derbyshire, Marston Upon Dove England.

The family is:

John Adams: b 04 Nov 1734 in Hilton, Derbyshire, Marston Upon Dove England, d 07 May 1815 in New London, PEI, Canada

wife: Elizabeth Wright, b 1740 in Hilton, Derbyshire, Marston Upon Dove England, d 31 Jul 1762 in Hilton, Derbyshire, Marston Upon Dove England.

Son: William, b30 Nov 1757 in Hilton, Derbyshire, Marston Upon Dove England, d 21 Jun 1765 in Hilton, Derbyshire, Marston Upon Dove England.

Son: Thomas, b 18 Mar 1759 in Hilton, Derbyshire, Marston Upon Dove England, d Abt. 25 Apr 1759 in Hilton, Derbyshire, Marston Upon Dove England.

Son: John, b 20 Feb 1761 in Hilton, Derbyshire, Marston Upon Dove England, d 16 Mar 1843 in New London, PEI, Canada

John Adams Sr. and Jr. moved to Prince Edward Island Canada where John Sr. married Sarah Harrison.

I am wondering if there are any headston inscriptions of this family in Hilton.  Also if anyone knows any other relatives of John Adams Sr. (possible father is either Richard or Thomas) or other relatives of Elizabeth Wright.

Thank you, your help is greatly appreciated.

Berwickshire / Re: Cameron's/Paxton's in Chirnside
« on: Wednesday 10 March 10 18:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Pat...The only Paxton's I can find are Jane/Jean/Janet Paxton (all one in the same person)who married the said John Cameron.  I believe her father is John Paxton who died in Chirnside on 19.2.1819 and wife Margaret Dods who died 11.11.1779.  I haven't any other information at all on the Paxton's.  I don't even know if my Paxton's are originally from Chirnside.  I do know that the Banns of Marriage that I am looking for stated that the Jane was from Chirnside and that the John Cameron was from somewhere else and that is one of the things I am trying to find out (I was told that by the person who was going to send me the copy but for some reason hasn't to date.)

Ev...what is an IGI...still new to this and don't know the abbreviations yet.  Is there any other information on that source about the marriage, places, parents, witness's etc???
