Hi John,

Alexander Taylor Robertson was born in 1863 at Leuchars, Fife and Mary Kennedy Keir was born 1861 at Longforgan.  They married in 1884 at Ruthven, Forfarshire.  All their children were born in Perthshire. Alex moved around Perthshire for work as a Shepherd, Farm Servant, Cattleman, Ploughman.
John was born in 1895 at Kildinny, Forteviot and Jim was born in 1903 at Balbrogie, Coupar Angus.
The Robertson family eventually settled at Alexandra Cottage at Wolfhill.

I have made a family tree on the Ancestry website so i can invite you to view it once i have your email address.

Hi John,

It's really nice to hear from you.  My great grandfather was one of James brother's - John Keir Robertson.  His daughter Alice Robertson was my granny and she used to talk fondly of all the family including Dave and Jim.  I would love to share the information i have with you on our family.

This rootschat website needs people to make 3 posts before i can send you a message and then be able to exchange emails.

Thanks for the replies.  This is rather frustrating, I wish i could just go back in time and create one tree.  I wonder how many other people are in the same boat as me with separate parent or grandparent trees, but now wishing it was one combined tree for DNA.  It helped when i first started to keep track of the different sides of my family.

My trees are rather detailed and extensive.  I'm kinda nervous about the whole downloading/uploading/merging thing. It would be helpful if there was an easier merge my trees option on the Ancestry website.  I might just grow one of the trees gradually to include the other three.

Just activated my test on Ancestry.  It says i should link them to a family tree. Thing is, when i first started researching years ago, I created four different trees, one for each grandparent.   So can i only link my results to just one of them?

Scotland / Re: Where did 'my' James Robertson come from?!?

This is a long shot, as the name James Robertson is very popular in Scotland, but thinking that the first son could be named after the father's father and if the middle name Scott is a surname handed down then the following may fit..

James Robertson baptized 27 July 1801 Caputh, Perthshire, Scotland father David Robertson mother Janet Scott

Hard to find a conclusive match though.  Another idea may be to search the early census with the surname Robertson and occupation Millwright and Mill Wright to see if you can find some relatives that fit right.

Yeah, i've been unable to find her baptism.  The 1860, 1870 and 1880 census have her birthplace as Warpstow or Warbstow so i'm unsure if it's Warbstow or Milton Abbot. An added complication may be that Peardon sounds similar to lots of different surnames.

Ann died aged 80 on 27th January, 1886 at Cargreen.  I'll probably get around to ordering the death certificate to see if it can help.

Ah i wondered what 'late' meant because the one i seen before that had an extra surname used the word 'previously'.  She was the one who registered the birth so she was still alive.

It does look like Kneebone, didn't know that was a surname.

thank you ShaunJ and Hephzibah
