Wow that looks promising. Have checked the ages and they match my dates. I think you have found them. I am delighted to say the least  :D
Quite exciting and will now work through the leads you have given me.
Thank you very much.

James Winchester married Sarah Ann Hamilton in 1861 and with several children immigrated to New Zealand in 1874 from County Down.

James had a brother Christopher Winchester who married Jane Pollock. Their children are James 1868, Christopher 1869, Hamilton 1871, Robert 1872, Mary 1874, and David 1876. Does anyone know what happened to this family?

I know James and Christopher had two sisters, Ellen who married Ephraim Burns in 1866, and Mary Jane who married William Cook in 1872. Mary Jane and William also came to New Zealand.

Any help greatly appreciated.        Heather01

Thank you for your reply. Henry Montgomery was born in 1853 but I am not sure if he was born in Ireland. On his marriage cert his father is David Montgomery. Not a lot to go on. I think Henrys second name may have been Lucas (a surname perhaps).
Your time and interest are appreciated
Kind regards

Henry  and Mary (nee Bates) Montgomery married in 1875 in Omagh in the parish of Drumragh and emigrated to New Zealand shortly after. Henrys father was David Montgomery and Marys father was Robert Bates. Henrys place of residence at the time of his marriage was Ballynahatty. I have come across information on the Bates family from another roots chat member but would love any info on the Montgomerys.

Look forward to hearing from someone

Thank you KatC for your message, it is the high point on an otherwise shaky morning (more earthquakes hit ChCh NZ) but still have the power on so I can let you know how grateful I am for your information.

The Mary born to Samuel and Judith Hamilton in 1852 is probably Sarah Anns younger sister so that's exciting news

Will follow up on the site you suggest
Once again many thanks
Happy New Year

Thanks so much for your replys. Gives me something to work on. Yes Sarah Anns parents were Judith (née McNeil) and Samuel Hamilton however I cannot find any record of them. I know Sarah Ann had a brother Henry as he also came to New Zealand.
Is there any site for history of New Mills Church. I have tried the rosdavies Tullylish all site but cannot access the history site recommended there.
Thanks again

My gg grandparents James and Sarah Ann (née Hamilton) Winchester immigrated to New Zealand in 1874. James's parents were John and Mary (née Rice) Winchester. John Winchesters father was also a James d.1833. I would be grateful for anymore information on this family. Shanes Hill has been mentioned in the family folklore (something about fairies) and also New Mills church.

Many thanks
