Australia / Re: Waupaca, Melbourne Road, Frankston (Victoria, Australia)

Hi Peter,
Just looking at the electoral rolls and there was a Marion Smith living at Waupaca between 1917-1928. She is listed as housekeeper (as opposed to 'home duties').  Also a Jessie Shave living there at the same time who was a dressmaker.  I've done a quick look at some other records and it would seem Jessie was Marion's daughter. Do these names mean anything to you?

I also found the following notice in Trove:

SHAVE. On the 13th May at her mother's resi-
dence, "Greba" Melbourne road, Frankston,
Jessie Bernice the dearly loved and only daugh-
ter of Charles Osbourn and Jessie Shave, Webb's
buildings, aged 13 years and 2 months. Interred.

And this article:
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/65849331?searchTerm=%22webb%27s%20buildings%22%20frankston

As per Judith's post and link, Waupaca seems to have some connection with education and it seems the above people.  More to ponder!

Regards,
Andrea

Not sure if you've started looking through the marriages but I had a few spare credits so you can eliminate the following from your list! (This is on the assumption James' first wife died in Scotland, which she may not have.)

Mary Ellen McGartland    1913     Camlachie
Janet Tighe                    1916     Calton
Mary Steele                   1915     Anderston

I forgot to check, as Forfarian suggested, whether there were any death records as well for any of the above, until after I had looked at the certificates, but I'll put that down to Covid brain! (still in lockdown in Melbourne, Australia and have no idea what day, date or month it is!!  ;D ;D).

Having since checked, I can't see any death records for them during that time frame of 1911-1918.

Andrea

Hi macpark,

Do you know the date of death for James? Death certificate might hopefully show name of first wife.

Andrea

Happy to help but good contributions by all! :).  I tried looking up the Lair books to see if I could find who else was buried there but the lairs are not in numerical order and I couldn't see any other number that would help make the search easier. If I stumble across it will let you know!

Found him!

Buried at Lambhill Cemetery, Glasgow on 14th September 1945.  Lair no: 954, Lair owner's name: Mr J. Gibson.

Look at entry no. 108378 in left hand column on following image:

Hi Kellee,

Not sure if just coincidence but in the 1861 census, there is a Gibson family living at 56 Carrick Street.

Janet 40
Euphemia 18
William 13
Margaret 11
Jane 4

No mention of John, but in the 1851 census, living at 65 Jamaica St, the same family have a John, born 1847. If this was your John, it would make him 77 at the time of writing the letter to your Great grandfather so not sure if that fits or not.

There's a death record on SP for an Annie Glendinning in 1884, aged 25 (which would make her DOB abt 1859) in Dennistoun. I'm sorry, I would have a look for you but have run out of credits! May or may not be her.

Andrea
