Hi Skoosh,

Many thanks for posting Grant death notices! You included one for a distant aunt of mine named Catherine Grant (daughter of Alexander Grant and Janet Ross). The information will help me piece together my maternal Grant tree. Catherine and I share Alexander (my 6th great-grandfather). Alexander was a schoolmaster for the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge in Urrray, lived at the Fairburn Estate, and died there in 1818. He was married at least two times. His first wife (name unknown) is my connection. His second wife, Janet Ross, was Catherine's connection.

Best regards,
Richard

Thanks for the information Tybalt and Tortiegirl! Tybalt, I sent you a private message yesterday through Rootschat about our common ancestors.

Thanks for the offer, Dion. I haven't had luck yet. There are Hodgkinses buried at St. John the Baptist. Someone posted a memorial stone photo at Findagrave.com for a Joseph Hodgkins. See:

Hi trish1120 and Dion,

Many thanks for the information and for your help yesterday.  The John Hodgkins who died in 1814 sounds like a possible ancestor. I'll look him up at Find My Past and Ancestry.

Thank you for your help, Dionysus! I came across the same baptism record for Margaret Hodgkins. I think we found a good match. There is also information online about a John Hodgkins who owned land stocked with burrows and rabbits in the 18th century. The place covered hundreds of acres in the Hammerwich part of Cannock Chase.

I'm hoping someone has a connection to William Bickley and/or Margaret Hodgkins of Burntwood. They had an illegitimate son named John Bickley Hodgkins (my paternal 4th great-grandfather) who was baptized on July 24, 1785 at St. John the Baptist in Hammerwich. I'm trying to find his ancestors. John was a forgeman in Bilston (Tory Row), Bradley, and Tipton before immigrating to the United States in 1830. Boonton, New Jersey requested English iron workers to help establish an iron works.

If there is any photographer volunteer near St. Luke's Churchyard in Farnworth a photo of my Robinson ancestors' grave would be much appreciated. I haven't had any luck with help at Findagrave.com. The churchyard was finally cleared of brambles, so all of the greavestones are visible. THe Robinson gravestone is apparently a flat sandstone memorial located three rows back outside the main nave window (Grave No. 80049; Plot 8, Grave 49). Here is a Findagrave.com link to my  5th great-grandfather, Peter Robinson (1760-1816):

Hi again Jangeo,

I heard from St Lukes! There is indeed a large flat memorial stone for some Robinson relatives (which might include an ancestor or two). The transcription of it isn't complete, so next week the church will have their Verger cut the grass and uncover the Robinson stone. It's located three rows away from the main nave window (Plot 8, Grave 49). They are also willing to take a picture for me.
