Good morning,

I live in America and I am hoping that someone in England can help me with additional information regarding my friend's Great Great Grandfather, William Maynard.

William was born in 1829, Wivelsfield, a son of Thomas Maynard and Mary Burchell. Husband of Sarah Tubbs Dale. He enlisted in the Royal Artillery in 1853. We can see that he was in Canada in the 1860s where three of their children were born, then the family is in Ros, Ireland where their  fourth child is born. He was discharged from service due to ill health on April 19, 1870 and returned to England where three more children are born in Brighton, Sussex.

Can anyone give us insight on why he was stationed in Canada and Ireland at this time? Any other information on William Maynard would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Hope

Good morning,

I'm doing family research for a friend of mine and I am hitting a brickwall. Can someone direct me in finding the parents of GLADYS COOK b. ca. 1915. According to records her mother's maiden name was Ryan. Gladys married ERNEST YOUNGE b. ca. 1912. They married about 1937.  I would love to find the parents of Gladys and Ernest if possible, but any information would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Hope

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Re: Hardwick of Derbyshire
« on: Sunday 13 October 13 16:00 BST (UK)  »
So now I am even more confused!!! I received information on my John Hardwick. "John Hardwick of Stainsby who departed this life September .... 1700" His inventory totaled: 38:14.04 and was taken by William Hardwick (could he be a brother or son???)

The next copy I received begins in Latin: Quarto dis Aprilis 1701 for Johannis, Husband  Surroto ....
John (Johannis) con...gravit (sp?) Barbara Hardwick Halt Hucknall........

The next is Barbara Hardwick's will: The first two men mentioned are Jacobu Hardwick, husbandman and Jacobu Watkinson. They both sign the document after Barbara. It states that Barbara is John Hardwick's "relict".
Much of this Will is in Latin...guess it's time to learn a new language :)

So now I have to figure out who James Hardwick, William Hardwick and James Watkinson are? I must also find out when John Hardwick married Barbara. I know their daughter Barbara (my ancestor) was born in 1679.

Any suggestions would be so greatly appreciated! Thanks!

England / Where is the Wale family from????

My ancestor William Wale was born about 1775 in England and immigrated to NYC ca.1810 or so. He was a piano-maker, he also worked as a carpenter and a coffin maker and this trade as an instrument-maker seemed to be passed down to his sons. Unfortunately, I don't know where in England William was from but it seems to me he may have learned the art of piano making before he came to America. Is the surname Wale common in certain areas of England?

The only other information I know of him is that he married Ann Penney/Pinney I descend from their son, John William Wale who was born about 1803 in England.

Thank you for any advice you can provide. Have a good night! Hope
