The Common Room / Where are the IGI records?
« on: Friday 18 August 23 15:09 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I have started going through and checking my genealogy record sources and ones that I found in the IGI on familysearch a few years ago are no longer there!

What has happened to the IGI?

Eg: cannot find the baptism of Bridget Dobson in Dufton Westmorland England 7 May 1607.

Hi

Yes I have seen the date mistake as well, thanks.

I have looked at the entry for Canterbury

https://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/volume/1386-1421/constituencies/canterbury

and the same references are used as for the entry for William Rose. For Canterbury the first reference is

Canterbury Cathedral City and Diocesan RO, city accts. FA1, f. 49

and afterwards similar references are given after ibid. I think that maybe my FA1, f. 198. is a record at the Canterbury Cathedral City and Diocesan RO (record Office).

I will try and contact this RO.

I am interested in seeing the info about his wife Alice St Cler daughter of Reynold. I cannot find anything on the internet.

The Common Room / History of parliament online references

Hi All,

I have found my ancestor William Rose in the above website

https://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/volume/1386-1421/member/rose-william-ii

In the reference list there is a reference:

FA1, f. 198

Does anyone know what this reference is? What type of record? Where to find it?

Thanks in advance

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Help understanding Chancery doc please
« on: Sunday 29 January 23 13:12 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks very much!

There have been a number of legal shenanigans brought about by the Rose family going back generations!!!

It's a shame there are no relationships described in the docs, however, it is an interesting story!

Best regards

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help understanding Chancery doc please

Hi All,
I am trying to make sense of a chancery document C/1/52/233 IMG 329 on Aalt 1475-80 or 1483-85. This document refers to the reversion of a messuage in Westgate Street Canterbury, held for life by Elys Rose, widow of William Rose. As far as I know, the property was inherited by William Rose of Broomfield, son of John Rose of Wye but the widow Elys was to be looked after during her life.

I believe that the John Rose of Wye and the husband William of Elyse Rose are brothers and that the William Rose of Broomfield is the nephew of Elys and William.

In the doc in the link, at the beginning of the fourth line, I think is written nephew? So part of the sentence would read: William Rose the nephew of the said widow Rose...

http://aalt.law.uh.edu/AALT4/ChP/C1no52/IMG_0329.htm

Does anyone agree with this?

Thanks in advance,

Gigi

Hi
Am still having trouble.
Can only find the source reference on HBO but not the actual source.

Does anyone know what the xiii or 103 refers to?

Thanks
