Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: 1783 Cornish will - a couple of words
« on: Wednesday 29 May 24 06:05 BST (UK)  »
A modern spelling of "cow field" in the Cornish language would be "bugh parc".

https://www.cornwalls.co.uk/cornwall/language.htm

Cow - bugh is also beugh
Field - parc is also park

There is this organisation - Canadian Roots UK (the contact person is in Worthing)

https://www.canadianrootsuk.org/

"Please note there are no records held within the UK showing  where Canadian Regiments were stationed in the UK at any given time, all the billeting records were destroyed during the 50's."

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Same Thomas?
« on: Monday 20 May 24 06:49 BST (UK)  »
The top signature looks like Thomas llis (the E in Ellis is missing).

The two Ts in Thomas are different, but the two 'homas' characters look similar.
llis in the top signature looks similar to (E)llis in the bottom one.

World War Two / Re: Help please in deciphering my Father's WW2 RAF Service Record
« on: Thursday 16 May 24 11:39 BST (UK)  »
41 Squadron was at a number of different locations in 1943:

October 1942-March 1943: Llanbedr
March-April 1943: High Ercall
April-May 1943: Hawkinge
May 1943: Biggin Hill
May-June 1943: Friston
June-October 1943: Westhampnett
October 1943-February 1944: Tangmere

RAF Friston in Suffolk is probably the closest to RAF Hornchurch in Essex.

Morning Tony.  Thank you for the information you provided.  You'll have to excuse my ignorance but do you know when Dad was at this place please?

Regards,

Kathryn
