Thanks for your help. I've looked at the CWGC but there are lots of possible matches. I'll just have to hope a closer relative reads the forum before 2022!

Lancashire / Abraham Allen,b. 1866 Bolton,anyone related?
« on: Thursday 17 April 14 16:37 BST (UK)  »
Finding the gravestone of Abraham's parents [Jesse Allen and Ann Howarth] in Harwood, I became a little sidetracked by my gt. gt. uncle Abraham's family.Abraham married Margaret Blackburn and they had 4 sons-
James,1891; Harold,1895, Arthur,1899, and Harry,1902. I have tracked them through to the 1911 census, but wonder how to find out whether the oldest children served in the forces in WW1 and did they survive?
Do we have a date for the release of the 1921 census?
Many thanks, Maggie.

Hi there Debby,
Thanks for your post, it has been so long since I started the thread that I had to reread all the posts to remind me what my original query was!
My husband has the Reed connection, his great great grandfather, John Reed (1813-1872)
was Michael Reed's brother. I think that would make him Michael's great great grandnephew.
Thanks for clarifying Susannah's marriage and her parents' names.
I have got a lot of info on John's parents and siblings, if you have any blanks to fill in.
You will be able to send me a personal message once you have posted on here a couple of times-just hit the reply button and say hi! This is a great site-no matter what brick wall you hit on your research someone on here will help you!
Best wishes, Maggie.

Lancashire / Re: Whit Walks

We had Whit Walks in Swinton, Lancs. The newly bought white sandals marked the start of summer for us, though I remember many soggy walking days! The girls carried little straw baskets and if anyone watching knew you, they would run out of the crowd and drop pennies into your basket.

Can anyone tell me if inscriptions from Lauther churchyard are available?
I believe that a John Spence was buried there in 1794, and I'm wondering if he was related to my Spence family, his wife was called Margaret.
Many thanks, Maggie

Hi Suzanne,
The household is in the 1911 census for Swinton Grange.

Many thanks for the suggestion.
I may have to see if any Royal Flying Corps records are available online.

I was given the photo copy by a Carabine relative, but the branch of that family I have researched do not have large enough families, though the airman pictured does look like a Carabine. They thought it could show someone in their Kirkman side, Richard Carabine married Ellen Kirkman in 1915 (salford), but I do not know anything yet of Ellen's parents or where she was born.
The Carabines also married into the Hicks family. Joseph Carabine married Maria Hicks (nee Taylor) 1882 Charlestown, Salford. Now the Hicks do seem to have large families- Maria (b.1861 Pendleton)had 8 siblings born between 1841-1864- so it may well be one of their grandchildren's families in the picture.

So it will probably be easier to try and track down if any Carabines, Kirkmans or Hicks from the Salford area were in the royal Flying Corps!
