Kent / ROBERTS, CACKETT and WICKEN, Westerham and area
« on: Tuesday 24 January 12 08:38 GMT (UK)  »
It's time to offer up a brick wall to Roots Chat colleagues: my direct ancestors George ROBERTS (born c 1762, died 1835) and Mary CACKETT (birth and death unknown) were married in Westerham parish church on 20 March 1785.

I have details of their six children, all baptised in Westerham between 1786 and 1805

What I have been unable to trace is their earlier ancestry, which is likely to have been in Westerham or the neighbouring parishes - possibly including those just the other side of the Surrey border.

Likewise I am seeking any details about the parentage of Ann WICKEN, who married George and Mary Roberts' son Josiah at Brasted church on 13 March 1816. Ann died in 1867 and on census returns gave her place of birth as Sundridge, but I have found no record of her, nor in Edenbridge, where several Wicken records exist.

I would be very grateful for any information that people might be able to share - this has been a dead branch on my tree for some years now.

With thanks for any help provided,
Waterhouse

Berkshire Lookup Requests / Re: PORTER of Hungerford

I think her death fits, as she gve birth to an illegitimate daughter, Mary Ann, just a few days before the date given for her burial. Mary Ann was my 4x great-grandmother.

I am now on the hunt for the ancestors of Moses and Ann Drew - all good fun!

Berkshire Lookup Requests / PORTER of Hungerford
« on: Monday 23 January 12 13:41 GMT (UK)  »
I am interested in pinpointing the deaths of James PORTER and his wife Mary (nee ROSIER) of Hungerford.

The couple married in the town in 1774 and had a dozen children there, up to 1791.

If anyone has access to burial records for James and Mary, I'd appreciate any details given.

Further to this inquiry, I am also interested in the funeral details of James's parents, Moses PORTER and his wife Ann (nee DREW), also of Hungerford.

Finally, I am trying to link the marriage of Ann Porter to William BUCKRIDGE in Inkpen in 1797 to the Ann who was a daughter of James and Mary, born in Hungerford in 1775.

Sincere thanks to anyone who can help,

Waterhouse

Thanks so much Kyrenia, those details confirm that this is the woman I am interested in. Just a quick delve into Augsutus Alexander's status suggests he may be from Jamaica, which may account for the couple's disappearance from UK records after their wedding.

Once again your kind and thorough help is very much appreciated.

Kyrenia, thank you for your kind efforts, they are much appreciated. I hope I have not started a long and fruitless search.

Kind regards

Thanks Annette7, I am up to speed with the same details as you, the missing birth records are due to some wild variations on the spelling of Kennard over the years. As mentioned above, no trace of Augustus or Sarah after the marriage registration.
Thanks for your help

Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / ALEXANDER - KENNARD marriage - completed
« on: Thursday 29 December 11 17:33 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have any information on the marriage of Augustus ALEXANDER and Sarah KENNARD in Southampton RD in the June quarter of 1882. I believe (but cannot be 100 per cent sure) that the marriage was in St Mary's. I am hoping to confirm Sarah's identity as a daughter of Edward Kennard. Subsequent to the record of their marriage, I have been unable to find any positive trace of either bride or groom. One year earlier, Sarah was an inmate of the Holy Rood workhouse, with a young illegitimate daughter. The daughter, Mary Jane Kennard, later went on to live with her Kennard grandparents in West Ham and later married Joseph Mills.

Thanks to any Rootschatters who can help,

Waterhouse
