Australia Lookups completed / Re: COMPLETED Albert William JACKSON - Adelaide
« on: Friday 17 June 16 20:05 BST (UK)  »
Hello JulieSolly
I'm delighted to hear from you and can certainly help you going back in England with family info but I'm going on holiday for a week from tomorrow so it will have to wait until I get back! Lots to do before I leave so I will get in touch after next weekend.
My husband's grandmother, Elizabeth Jackson, was your greatgrandfather's eldest sister (born 1871).
Her brothers and sister were:
George 1873; John 1876; Mary (known as Poll) 1878; Thomas 1880 then Robert 1883 and Albert William 1886. They also had three half brothers from George's first marriage:
James 1855; Richard 1857 and Joseph 1859. Richard who also went to Australia died in 1939 in Blackwood, Adelaide as a retired Methodist Minister. Their father, George b.1829 was a farmer and Primitive Methodist preacher around the Appleby area in Westmorland.
Sadly my husband passed away last year but he would have been thrilled to hear about the next generation living in Australia.
Best wishes

Ellin Hughes full age spinster - father: Hugh Griffiths, labourer.
Both were living at Caellwyngwdd (best I can do from writing on record) and made an X.
Witnesses were William Morris and John Williams (both signed).

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Re: George H Davies, which one?

The 1911 census you have details of looks very likely. George H Davies with wife Matilda as you know from your lookup he states he was born in Rhoswiel. There is a marriage of George Henry Davies with a Matilda Bowyer on the same page in Oswestry district in 1906 - Oct-Nov-Dec qtr  Ref: 6a 1471.
Good luck with your research.

Shropshire / Re: 1871 Census Lookup Please (i can't find him)
« on: Friday 11 March 16 21:18 GMT (UK)  »
I agree with Suz that the 1861 age for Edward is 13. There is a baptism at Church Stretton for Edward s/o Thomas & Margaret Medlicott of Minton, Salop on 28 June 1848 which would tie in with this age in 1861.

In 1871 in Tenbury Foreign, Worcs I found: Piece 3039 Folio 117 page 24
George Griffin  head unmar 58 Joiner
Lucy Hughes  widow 53 Dressmaker
Edward Medlicott lodger 22 single  Railway porter b. Minton, Salop

Possibly worth considering in view of his career on the railway and did he knock a few years off his age because Alma Jane was younger than he was?

Other baptisms at Church Stretton:
1845  Nov 9   Thomas s/o Thomas & Margaret Medlicott of Minton, Labourer
1851  Mar 2    Robert      ditto  of All Stretton

Burial at Church Stretton
1861 May 19  - Robert Medlicott age 10 - was this little Robert from the Workhouse?

Denbighshire / Re: Humphrey Roberts Llangerniew
« on: Friday 08 January 16 19:49 GMT (UK)  »
In 1841 in Pandy, Llangerniew - all born in Denbighshire:
Humphrey Roberts 25 Ag Lab
Sarah Roberts 25
Jane  5; David 3; Howel 1

1851 in Hamlet of Pandy, Llangerniew
Humphrey Roberts  40 Stone Mason b. Llangerniew
Sarah Roberts wife 39 b. Capel Garmon
Jane dau 16; David son 13; Howel son 11; Edwin son 8; Jonah son 6; Mary dau 2
- all b.Llangerniew

1861 Pandy Tudur, Llangerniew
Humphrey Roberts 39 Mason b. Llanrwst
Sarah Roberts wife 48 b. Yspytty
Mary dau 12; Robert son 10; Ellen dau 7 - all b. Llangerniew

1871 Hanerchfelus, Llangerniew
Humphrey Roberts 58 Farmer b. Llanrwst
Sarah Roberts wife 57 b. Yspytty
Jonah son 23; Robert son 18; Ellen dau 16 - all b. Llangerniew

1881 - Pandy Shop, Llangerniew
Sarah Roberts widow 70 Grocer b. Yspytty
Ellen dau unmar 27 b. Llangerniew
Jonah son unmar 35 Servant (farm) b. Llangerniew

From the above info a likely candidate for the baptism of Sarah is:
Yspytty Ifan Congregational (non conformist registers)
Sarah the daughter of David Roberts of Pentrevelin by Jane his wife baptised Sept 4th 1812 by Lewis Powell   Bethel.

There is a death for Humphrey Roberts b.1812 died 1876 in Llanrwst (rather than Llanddewi) which could be appropriate.

Hope this is useful.

Best wishes, Fairlane
