Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Have I done something wrong?
« on: Saturday 12 January 08 17:00 GMT (UK)  »
I have two black and white photographs that I would like to post for restoration. They are only postcard size. I scanned them in to the computer and set the resolution (I thought) at 600. It wanted to scan them at 200. The photographs are huge now, over 34 inches long and the jpeg is about 1.1 Mb. Should I have left the setting at 200? Any help greatly appreciated.

I am overwhelmed with the speed and apparent ease that you have found them. Thank you all for your time and efforts.

I have a birth certificate for GG Grandfather Robert William Cox dated 18th November 1837 in the Registration District of Lambeth.

It shows his Father as Thomas Cox and Mother as Anne Cox formerly Sargeson lately Collins.

I am stuck and cannot find anything about these two. A marriage certificate would be helpful. I don't understand the "lately Collins" bit either. Does it mean she has left Thomas Cox and with someone called Collins? Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

I go with Trystans philanthropic approach. If you work from the premise that:-
Never expect people to appreciate what you have done.
But ALWAYS appreciate the work of others!

Does anyone know if records of evacuees and their placements were kept and if so are they available?

Hello

The only thing I can tell you is that D.C.L.I means Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. It's a start anyway. Good luck!

Thank you both for your efforts. I have found out that the (2b) before Balkans means Gallipoli. Also that the (1743 KR 1912) 8153/adt means :-
Kings Regulations (1912) para 1743 which states:

"Medals which, at the end of 10 years, still remain unclaimed, will be sent to ... the deputy director of ordnance stores. Royal Dockyard (Medal Branch), Woolich ... to be broken up."

The bit that puzzles me is the A/103 B11/1718 dilited Auth X 5 with which looks like a supascript lower case e. What on earth can that mean? Perplexed!!

This is my Grandfathers medal card. Most of it is fairly self explanatory but I am struggling with what is written in and alongside "Action taken". Any help greatly appreciated.
