Europe / Trying to trace the Dyke family from Prussia.
« on: Thursday 20 April 17 13:22 BST (UK)  »
I have Harry William Dyke b1838 Prussia (I believe in Stetten, which I am told is now in Poland).   He was a master mariner and was lost at sea in 1900/1901.

He married Elizabeth Cosgrove in Liverpool, England 21 February 1864.   On their marriage record it states that his father was William Dyke, a teacher.

Can anyone help with tracing this family please?

Just to let you know that I have now received a rescanned copy of the Death Certificate from Scotlands People.   The mother's maiden surname is definitely 'Hannah'.

Thanks everyone, especially Dorrie for suggesting I ask for a rescan.

Hi Thornwood

Thanks for your reply.

Yes you are looking at the right bit, but I thought it was giving his mother's maiden name - as is usually the case.   Looked like 'Hannah' to me, but I didn't want to influence anyone else's thoughts.

I have asked Scotlands People for help, as Dorrie suggested.

Many thanks,

Joan

Hi rosie99 and avm228

Thankyou both for your quick replies.

That sounds like the John Dyke I am looking for.   Thankyou.

I can confirm that Mary Harriet (May) Dyke was born 3.5.1874.   Not the first time that Christian names have been moved around in this family!

Strange that the family have disappeared from the 1911 census!

Cheshire / Trying to find death of John Dyke.

I can't find the death of John Dyke, altho' I believe it was around 1939.
bc1865 he was baptised 29.01.1865 in Liverpool to parents Harry William Dyke and Elizabeth Cosgrove.
1898 m Mary Harriet (May) Harries (1874-1970) in Birkenhead.   They had two daughters: Kathleen (Kitty) Mary 1899-1982, and Elizabeth Olga 1901-1979.
I have the family in Liscard, Cheshire on the 1901 census, but can find no mention of them on the 1911 census.   I believe the family remained in Cheshire.
The last record I have of John Dyke was a trip to the US in 1911.   He was a cotton merchant.
Can anyone help please?
