Dublin / Re: Dublin Parish Records
« on: Friday 05 November 21 18:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Maiden Stone thank you for your reply.

My grandfather, Patrick Mitchell was born in Dublin in 1870.
He was born in the parish of St. Thomas, according to his army papers.
He married in St James church in 1903. In order to do this, he had to get a special dispensation from the Pope to marry in the Catholic church.
As the children were all raised as Catholics, they knew nothing of their fathers' religion until they were clearing out the attic after his death and found the dispensation.
The church register of the marriage says nothing at all about any dispensation, difference of religion  of the husband, etc.,
That is all I know so far.

Thank you, Heywood and Aghadowey for your replies.

You have been very kind and helpful. Yes, it is still the same person from 1870 that  I am looking for.

I need to find out if the parents' names that have been given to me by my cousin are correct. He is deceased now so I can not ask him.

Thank you, Heywood and Aghadowey for your replies.

I shall trawl through the lists you have given me and see if I missed anything.

Yes, Aghadowey I am still looking for the same one. No luck so far. Both his army records and census give the correct year of birth for him.

Hello Rootschatters,
I am wondering if anyone can help me, please. Are all the records for all the parishes in Dublin online or not?

I am talking Catholic, Protestant, Presbyterian, C of I, etc.

If not which ones are missing or destroyed?

I really appreciate the help as I am looking for the birth of an ancestor born in Dublin in 1870.

Thank you in advance.

Armagh / Mullavilly, Co Armagh birth records

Hello Rootschatters,

I am wondering if someone can advise me, please. I have been asked by a friend in Australia to help find the birth record of an Elizabeth PORTER, born about 1930 in Mullavilly, Co. Armagh.
Father is John PORTER, Mother Mary surname unknown.

Elizabeth had a sister called Kathleen and a half brother John.

I have tried to find parish records for this place but no success. Does anyone know if they are online someplace? Any help or advice greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Kindest regards,

Nora Lush

Hello LH,

Thank you for your reply. Andrew MITCHELL is not one of my ancestors. Mine seems to be very elusive!

Kindest regards,

Nora

Hello hallmark,

The William MITCHELL shown on the 1901 census living at 38 Merrion Road is not mine. His father's name was Andrew.

I am looking for Patrick MITCHELL b: 1870 in the parish of St. Thomas, Dublin.
                        Father:- Peter MITCHELL
                        Mother:- Mary.....?

Patrick had at least two brothers that I know of, William and John.
I have not found births for any of these. They were Unitarian.

Kindest regards,

Nora
