London and Middlesex / Who were the parents of Alice Zealey?
« on: Thursday 09 October 14 00:15 BST (UK)  »
I hope someone can help sort this out, my GG Grandmother was
ALICE MARY ZEALEY  (who married Obed La Farre)
B": 1860 Shoreditch, Middlesex.
D: 1900 Epsom

From family information - ??? I know not the most reliable!
I have:
Father Joseph Zealey
B: 1836 Hoxton.

Mother Mary Ann Nunn
B 1825 Beddingham, Suffolk.

Married 24th March 1850  - but this would make Joseph 14 and Mary 26 - talk about a shotgun wedding!!!

Can anyone help me sort this lot out?

I wonder whether it could have been either:
Frederick Zealey born 1890, Frank b. 1891 or Charles b. 1893. Their parents were Thomas b. 1857 and Mary. This is the family who lived at 31 Richmond Road, Beddington.  I don't have deaths of either of them, although it looks like Frank died well before 1927.

Surrey / Zealey (Zealy) death in Beddington
« on: Thursday 07 August 14 01:09 BST (UK)  »
I had a contact from a distant cousin, who is trying to find out about a death somewhere near 1927 in Beddington.

One of the family stories handed down was one of the Zealey family (who lived Richmond Road) committed suicide as he was heartbroken that my cousin's mother had not married him; he was apparently found dead in the nearby alleyway/footpath leading from Richmond Road.

If anyone has any clues as to where to search, we would love to know.  I have tried British newspapers online that I have access to from Australia, but have not found anything.  Unfortunatley we do not know his first name.

Thought some local knowledge may give us a better chance.
Barb.

Many thanks Isaca,
I have not managed to track it down yet.  I thought I would try via my local library to see if I can get something library to library going.
if you find the article, I would love a picture of it.
I hope you enjoy your trip.

Cumberland / Re: Captain George Fisher & maritime records.

What a good idea about the Grayson name, I have been trying to find a link to it, it does seem an odd name to give someone out of the blue.  Will do a bit more research into Jane Grayson and see where that leads.
Thanks for the idea.

Cumberland / Captain George Fisher & maritime records.
« on: Thursday 27 March 14 00:26 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find some information, particularly about the maritime history of my GGGG Grandfather, Captain George Fisher, born in Workington, abt 1809.
I think the family was:
Wife: Jane,
Sons: William, Thomas Grayson, George Henry,
Daughters: Mary, Martha & Jane.

I'm not sure where to start to look for what ships he sailed in etc. I hope someone has some recommendations or starting points for me.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It looks like his son, Thomas Grayson Fisher jumped ship in Australia when he was an apprentice on the "Heather Bell" and he became a station overseer here.
