Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Who are the parents of Charles Richings
« on: Monday 11 May 09 14:38 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the parents of my ancestor Charles Richings.  According to the 1861 census he was born in Cirencester, Glos. around 1831.  In 1861 he was living in Bradfield, Sheffield with his wife and family.
According to his marriage certificate he was married in 1853 in Sheffield and his father was Edward; this could read Rickings though rather than Richings.

Thanks Celia;

I am fairly new to tracing the family history, and did it because I was young when my father died and I didn't know anything about his side of the family.  It certainly is interesting; I know you said you stopped when you got to Wirksworth, as all yours are around Staffs. but looking at a Greatorex family around Nantwich, their ancestors originally started in Derbyshire and then moved on; so there could be a connection way back with your side.

All the best, anyway

Anne

I am trying to connect the Greatorex family (|Greatracks) of Carsington, Wirksworth area of Derbyshire with the Irish Greatracks.  We have got as far back as Valentine Greatrack and am in  no doubt there is a connection, but can't find it.  Valentines father ? grandfather was born in Derbyshire before going over to Ireland.

Can anyone help.

Thanks Heywood;
The family in 1861 seems to be the right family at Edgemoor Rd., Upper Hallam.  Its Esther's side of the family I am trying to trace.  I think her maiden name was Fox.  I thought their daughters name was Susan, but it could have been Susannah.
Yes i am new to rootschat and tracing my tree.  So I am trying to find my way around and any help is gratefully received.

Can anyone help.  I am trying to trace information on great great grandparents; Charles and Susan Richings (nee Elliott); particularly Susan.  They lived in Sheffield in the Upper Hallam/Fulwood area and they had a son George born 1857.  Susan's mother was Esther (nee Fox) ?born in 1805 but I can't find any trace in the census's of Susan.
