Inverness / Re: William Clark Birth 23 MAY 1807 Petty,Inverness,Scotland
« on: Wednesday 11 January 17 09:59 GMT (UK)  »
I was at Scotland's Peoples Centre in Edinburgh this week and had a look at the OPR's for your enquiry. I found the following:
On 09 April 1833 at Petty, William Clark, cabinet maker, Petty St and Catherine Mackay proclaimed by the Rev Alexander Clark. (ref 106/0040)
On 11th April 1833 Then William Clark, Cabinet maker and Catherine Mackay, Inverness were married by Rev John McDonald of Urquhart. (ref 098/100)
I also had a quick look for the birth entry for William Clark b. 1807 but could not find anything.
Hope this helps.

Hello Bill

Unfortunately I am unable to go to Tweeddale Churchyard for you but the following two websites may be of interest and offer solutions to you: www.bordersfhs.org.uk/Tweedsmuir.asp and www.uppertweeddale.org.uk.
Best of luck.

Hi Barrie

I will be at Register House in Edinburgh next week and can help with a look-up for your enquiry. If you PM me details of the names you have I will see what I can find. Unfortunately I will not be going to the Central Library so I am unable to help with the voters roll enquiry.

Cheers

Hi Kenny

I was at Register House in Edinburgh a couple of days ago and had a look at your request. I restricted my search to the Wemyss area of Fife but found two more births as follows:

John Wilkie, born 15 August 1914 at 15 Johnston Square, East Wemyss, Fife
F. William Wilkie, coal miner
M. Annie Wilkie m.s. Nixon
who married 27 August 1912 in Ireland

Mary Wilkie, born 27 April 1926 at 4 Johnston Square, East Wemyss, Fife
parents as before

Hope this helps.

Hi Simon

I was at Register House in Edinburgh this week and had a look at the marriage you require. You are quite correct in your assumptions regarding Marjorie Sybil Mead and her parents. I will send a PM with the full details.

East Lothian (Haddingtonshire) / Re: Graham died in Dirleton
« on: Sunday 23 August 09 15:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi Elizabethh

Cemetery records in East Lothian are held at the local registrars office. In the case of Dirleton this will be North Berwick. The e-mail address is northberwickregistrars[at][/blue]eastlothian.gov.uk
(Replace [at] with @)
I notice on the website they state that there is a charge of £10 per half hour if a registrar is required to do a search.

Hi Bikerboy

If you type Gairbraid into Google you will find that it was a large country house.
There are various bits of information giving the history etc along with old photos.

Lanarkshire / Re: Thomas telfor(Telford)
« on: Saturday 15 August 09 21:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi Donna

The children of Thomas and Agnes I found were:
Elisabeth b.1821, Agnes Scouler Wilson b.1825, Thomas b.1827, William b.1829 and Catharine Lindsay b.1831.
On IGI I found the birth of Thomas Telfer 22 Oct 1784 in Douglas, Lanark (christened 31 Oct 1784). His parents were John Telfer b. c1751 and Katharine Lindsay b. c1755. This would appear to confirm he is your correct descendant as Thomas has named his daughter Catherine after his mother.
Thomas has five siblings on IGI, namely:
Jean Telfer b.20/04/1777 and ch. 27/04/1777
John Telfer b.10/10/1778 and ch.11/10/1778
John Telfer b.02/10/1779 and ch.17/10/1779 (presumably the previous child died)
Mary Telfer b.25/09/1781 and ch.30/09/1781
David Telfer b.17/02/1788 and ch.24/02/1788

Tried to find the marraige of John Telfer and Katharine Lindsay but no joy.
There is a christening of a John Telfer on 23/07/1755 in Biggar, Lanark to John Telfer and Jean Brown. Biggar is not terribly far from Douglas and naming patterns suggest a possible link.

Hope this helps.
