Lanarkshire / Re: David Allan (1905) and Margaret Allan (1907)

As far as I know they were both born in Farlie, Largs.
That does seem suspiciously like Margaret - we always assumed she'd relocated abroad with an uncle or aunt.
Thank you very much for that information!

Lanarkshire / David Allan (1905) and Margaret Allan (1907)

Hi,

David Robert Anderson Allan (b. 1905) and Margaret Motherwell Anderson Allan (b. 1907) were my grandmother's brother and sister. Their parents were Hugh Allan (b. 1875 - 1935) and Jane Anderson (1877 - 1914). When Jane Anderson died and Hugh Allan remarries in 1919 the new wife, Ann McCreadie refused to care for so many children so David and Margaret were sent away. My grandmother Jessie was too young to leave, and her brother Hugh was old enough to work.

It seems David and Margaret emigrated after which there is no record of them, or any contact with them. They essentially disappear.

Can anyone give any advice on how to track them down? I haven't got them on a census, and can't track them leaving the country. It's possible they went to Canada or the US.

Everything appreciated!

New Zealand Completed Requests / Real Long Shot on Unidentified Photos (Timaru)
« on: Monday 14 December 09 13:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I've got past the clutching at straws stage: I have inherited two photos of a woman at Timaru and am at a loss. Any advice on how to proceed (such as getting the photographer's dates etc?) or if anyone (real long shot) recognises her!

I know this all sounds ridiculous, but you never know. Any advice really appreciated.

The woman could be a Jones, Davies, Allan or Anderson. Then again could be a friend, rather than relation.

Shropshire / Cotgreaves
« on: Sunday 29 November 09 14:33 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to solve a bit of a family mystery. My father had always been told that his great uncle (Noel Victor Cotgreave b. 1897) has fought in WW1. However, I can find the war records of William Harry and their brother Cyril Charles Cotgreave, but no mention of Noel.

Is it possible the archive simply isn't online, has been destroyed, or that he lied about his name. If so is there any way to track it down? They lived around Oswestry.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Denbighshire / Re: Richard Jones of Henfache (1820 - 1904)

I think I may well be. I know he was involved somehow in the Wesleyan Church, and his daughter Elizabeth married a Wesleyan minister called Robert Thomas Owen who died between 1871 and 1881. I can't quite work out the Birkenhead connection though.

Thank you very much for this!

Denbighshire / Richard Jones of Henfache (1820 - 1904)
« on: Tuesday 24 November 09 23:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for any information regarding Richard Jones (1820 - 1904) born in Llansilin and his family in general. He's known to be from Henfache and then Glanaber. I have him throughout the censuses, but he seems to be well known in the community (He and his two brothers John and William are written about in Cofiant y Tri Brawd, but I cannot read the Welsh) and was wondering if anyone had any general information about him, especially regarding his daughter Rose Jones (1843 - 1880, Married David Davies) and her Children as I'm from that lineage.

Bit of a long shot I know.
Thanks in advance for anything!
