Cork / Sealy Family, County Cork, Ireland
« on: Tuesday 22 January 13 02:35 GMT (UK)  »
Any one researching the Sealy Family in County Cork? Would like to exchange ideas and information.
Some issues: what is relationship of the Sealy family in County Cork and the Sealy family in County Kerry? Do they both spring from the "original" migrant Sealy from Somerset about 1620? Who migrated from Cork to eastern Canada about 1830 and started that branch of family (there is a complete genealogy of these eastern Canadian Sealy's on the internet but the original migrant is not completely identified)? Who are the ancestors of Samuel Sealy of Kerry who married into the Cork Sealy family? Seems to be indications that a branch of the Cork Sealy family converted to the Roman Catholic religion in the mid-1800's, but who? Other than in Ireland, are the parish registers for the Church of Ireland in Bandon, County Cork and surrounding parishes available for study? Does the LDS church have them in Salt Lake City? Who are the parents of Arthur Sealy, Esq of
Lishheenbawn, Castle Island, County Cork (list in an index in 1846)? I have extracted all the information I can out of Ancestry.co.uk and now wonder if there is another pay site that is worth spending money on for Irish Sealy information.

All comments and/or suggestions welcome.

Looking for record of birth or baptism of Patrick H. They were married February 27, 1838 at the Catholic church in  Castletownbere, County Cork.

The family went to the USA about 1848 and settled in Wisconsin.

Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

London and Middlesex / William Latimer ?1775-?1860
« on: Thursday 25 February 10 20:05 GMT (UK)  »
I have a real road block with this person:

William Latimer shows up on his son's (William Baker Latimer) marriage certificate (February 2, 1833) as a tailor, and also on his daughter's (Honor Latimer) marriage certificate (August 3, 1864) as the same occupation. Based on the age of the four children I am guessing that William Latimer was born about 1775.  His wife's christian name was Ann; based on the son's name (William Baker Latimer) I am guessing her maiden name is "Baker".
The family lived in London, based on places of birth of children, Cripplegate and Pancras, Middlesex, London, from 1803-about 1865.

William and Ann's Children are William Baker Latimer (1803-1879), Honor Latimer (1805-?1879), Mary Ann Latimer (1805-?1885) and James Christopher Latimer (1807-1873). I have good information on children.

I can not find William and Ann's marriage. William's death. William's birth place and date, and Ann's birth place and date.  Have not been able to find a tailor in London of the name of Latimer or a work location.

There is a possibility that William and Ann's birth places could be in northern England or Ireland.

Anysuggestions or help would be great.

Rick,

You have made a substantial contribution to my family history. I have been searching for John Blackwell and his family since 2000 (off and on) and your information is the breakthru I needed.

I checked and the 1851 data you listed matches other data I had (1871 census and death certificate). Thanks again for your efforts.

Best Regards

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1861 & 1851 Census, London, Ellen Cane
« on: Thursday 27 January 05 22:59 GMT (UK)  »
Appreciate if someone could look up Ellen Cane in the 1861 and 1851 census records.

All I know is that Ellen CANE in late July 1865 gave her address as 9 Lewis Road East, Cold Harbor Lane, Camberwell. She gave birth to a daughter Emily Cane on July 31, 1865 at "Hospital, York Road". Registration District of Lambeth, Sub-district Waterloo Road, County of Surrey. No father of child listed.

Like to know Ellen's place and date of birth, her parent's names, ages, and places of birth, and information on any siblings.

One Name Studies: A to G / GOODWIN, Ireland, 1800-1900
« on: Thursday 27 January 05 22:21 GMT (UK)  »
Researching family of Patrick H. Goodwin born Ireland 1846 and died in railroad accident in Illinois, USA in 1895-96. Last child Emory P. Goodwin born September 7, 1896 in Panu, Illinois (Christian County).

Believed to come from Northern Ireland and may have come with brothers. No knowledge of port of entry or year of arrival in USA. May have worked in Chicago at one stage. Present day Goodwin family has no information on Patrick's Irish origins. There is, however, a family "myth" that name was McGoodwin or MacGoodwin.

Any suggestions, or information will be greatly appreciated.

Married to a great granddaughter of Patrick.
