Many thanks for your reply.  This information is very helpful and I will certainly get a copy of the birth certificate shortly.

The child was baptised in St. Nicholas Church of Ireland, Dundalk and in the baptismal register his name is given as Allan, born 10th August 1899, baptised 17th September 1899; father- Allan; Mother- Mary Ann; Address at the Barracks Dundalk; Father's occupation- Farrier Major, 3rd Dragoon Guards.
So your guess about the army connection was correct!
Brendan

Thank you so much - this is indeed my family.  My father will be so pleased with this.

Louth / Dundalk 1901 census

My great uncle, Alan Kent, is listed on the 1911 census as being born in Dundalk circa 1900.  His father, my great grandfather, Allen Kent, was a blacksmith, orginally from Aldershot, Hampshire so ther emay be some army connection.  I cannot find any of the family on the England 1901 census and wonder if they may have still been in Dundalk in 1901.  Can anyone help me with census information for Dundalk in 1901?  :)

World War One / 13th Hussars
« on: Saturday 06 February 10 15:15 GMT (UK)  »
My great grandfather, Pte Arthur William Brothers (38339) was in 13th Hussars when he died in India on 17th June 1919.  He is commemorated on the Delhi 1914 - 1918 War Memorial and is buried at Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India (all from CWGC website).  I have been unable to trace his service record (through Ancestry.co.uk) as I have others in the family, and assume his was one of the many military records that were lost in WW2.  I would love to know where and when he joined the army, and wondered if anyone knows if I will be able to find this information elsewhere?
