Very doubtful that it will be of immediate interest but might come in handy sometime.
LOMAX is listed in my wifes family tree.

ALICE LOMAX  born 27th.February 1915 at 6. Wallwork Street, Radcliffe.  Married HARVEY BECK  22 August 1937 at the Congregational Church, Radcliffe.
Harvey died 14 November 1963 and was cremated at Overdale Cemetery, Bolton.     I have no more information re. Alice.

Although I have detailed map, I cannot trace Overdale.
       Happy hunting.

"Hi" again Trystan,    Seems that very slowly I am getting the 'hang' of this "Roots Chat"  ... should not take me more than another 10 years  .. or at least, that is what my son thinks.   He is the professor while I am still in the infant class.   We are both on "Mac's")

Technical Help / Re: Blocked Cookies
« on: Saturday 12 February 05 02:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, Tristan,   Seems that I am not clued up on the 'Sign In' proceedure.  Is the first name the Surname or the given ? All in lower or upper case ?   When it comes to the Cookie does the given number have to be inserted in the space, or ?.  I keep getting different numbers and the 'Knock back'
I think I will have to reverse my 87 years to '8 or 7' and then I will 'SAVVY'.
As said in 'The King and I' ...  "It's a Puzzlement"
Over to 'U'.

Family History is like a spiders webb.  From the central core the support lines go out in all directions, and more being added means that the whole web becomes stronger thus giving support to all the ever expanding internal lines.
Your suggestion will ably make yet another of those support lines, so "congratulations".

WED. 09.10
Sorry Dinkey if I have led you astray a bit.  Neither my wife Alma's roots or mine are in F/D although she was born there.
I was born at Hackney in London, 18/12/1917, spending most of my school days in the Lowestoft district.  My roots actually go back to South Elmham in Suffolk.  With my step father being a fisherman we moved to F/D and I went to the Lord Street School.  Was in the merchant service at the time I met my wife to be - love called and I went to work at the Fleet Shoe Company (Copse Rd.) until I was called up into the Royal Artillery in 1940. After my discharge in 1946 I worked as a crane driver at the North End, the Hydraulics further down the quay, and at times on the steam cranes on the dock.  Later went to work on the chlorine plants at the ICI - was there until  we migrated in 1954.
Overcast here today but the temp is expected to be 34 C.
Your report on the F/d weather makes me glad that we are not there.  We have just become G.G. Grandparents.
If you are on email, Skype, etc. please let me know so that we can communicate that way.  You must be on the net to be able to send these messages.    Thanks again for your offer of help and I trust that this message will have cleared things up a bit.

To DINKEY:
Thanks for your speedy reply and offer of help.
Although I mentioned Fleetwood, it was there that both I and my wife lived until we migrated to Sydney in 1954.  Previous to then we lived in the (then) pre-fabs in Percy Street, later moving to 2 Larkholme Avenue, it being from there that we migrated.  My wife's parents lived at 10 Hamlet Road, they following us out here at a later date.   My father in law worked for the Lord Street Co-op, was treasurer of the local Kings Own Regt. association, plus being in other organisations, so was well known at F/D.  His nick-name was 'BUD'.
The mother of his wife 'Helen Pennington' lived in Lord Street Blackpool, so that made the Blackpool connection.
Currently I communicate with the Scantlebury's of Shakespeare Road.
Thanks again, and I trust that I will hear further from you.
Presumably you are on the 'Web' so we can communicate that way.
As a PS,  you will find me as being number 1 on the  'after the war' F/D Civil Defence records - just dust away the cobwebs.
