Australia / Re: Van Diemen's Land Records of Convict Elizabeth STUDHAM
« on: Monday 16 January 12 10:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hello. Many thanks for your reply.

I am still researching Elizabeth but thought I had exhausted all avenues.

Last information I had was from a lovely family in Australia who very kindly sent me some pictures and info.the family lived in Melbourne and were able to tell me where Elizabeth is buried. This lady also said she was from Thomas so maybe you have the same info. allready.

I am from Elizabeth's Brother George.

I have never been able to trace any children from Elizabeth's marriage, but I do have copies of some sketchy records relating to her trial and subsequent deportation. plus her time in Tasmania.

Lovely to get a reply after all this time and I am very happy to meet you.

Kind regards Carol

The Common Room / Advice Needed - Please
« on: Sunday 17 October 10 17:01 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace the names of the people who lived at an address which has come to light in the course of research into my family.

The period is between 1920 and 1931 and the address at that time was 44 Russell Place, Blackheath SE3. Later the name of the road was changed to Reynolds Place.

How do I try to find out who lived there during that period.

The folks in question would now be deceased.

Any advice would be welcome. Thank you.

Thank you very much Carinthiangirl for all the links. It seems the 2/11 Battalion were deployed to defend Retimo Airfield.

Hello Adrian. Just wondering if you can translate the last line on the second sheet as it is written in red as is the last two lines on the first sheet which you kindly translated for me.

Thanks very much.

Europe / Help Needed with German Translation Please
« on: Wednesday 15 September 10 22:13 BST (UK)  »
The attached images form part of my Uncle's WW2 service record. He served in the Australian Army and died defending the Island of Crete during WW2. These two pages are in German so I am presuming he was captured after being wounded and sadly died. He is buried in in Suda Bay War Cemetery on Crete. I have shown these pages to a German colleague but she has had difficulty translating commenting that the style of writing is old and therefore difficult for her to translate.

Can anyone help please.

Thank you Glenpenny for that lovely description of the Cemetery, I would very much like to visit.

Also, many thanks for all the help given by other members on this thread, I have now received the photographs which are excellent with the inscription on the headstone very clear.

Kind regards Carol.
