Hi,

I will be going to the Hawarden records office next Monday and will try and find out if they have a record of him there for you.

Cheers

Thanks for the info Rah.

I haven't come across this surname myself so before I go to the records office I will search the census to see if I can get more of an idea of where they lived.

Thanks again
Liz

Thanks for the web site address of FreeReg, Rol.

Have you been able to find anything of interest on it yet Tecwyn?

I do have some transcriptions of baptisms from Seion, Holywell (non-conformist) but cant find the Brooks family amongst them.

I will certainly try to find out more about Andrew, his wife and children. I have been looking today but so far nothing. As you couldn't find a marriage for Andrew and Elizabeth in Harrington I will need to widen the search. So far I have found the name Reney/Rainey cropping up in Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man. A search of the 1841 census for England and Wales didn't produce either of Andrew's other two sons Robert and Andrew.

Still not to worry - somewhere out there are the records I need!

Thanks for that Tecwyn, I will look anyway but Hawarden unfortunately don't seem to have that many non-conformist records. If they are Methodist ones that can be even more of a problem unfortunately.
Have you tried searching through the FreeReg database? I know that they have had access to some North Wales records.

Take care
Liz

Hi Bob and Dettori
I hope you both see this as I believe I have made a discovery today that confirms the info you gave me yesterday.

I went onto the Welsh Mariners Index site and found this reference to James Reney/Rainey, "James Reney was born at Harrington Cumberland on 4th February 1790, the elder son of a Master Mariner and ship owner. As a young man, already the Captain of the Brig 'Ann' he must have sailed into the then new port of Connah's Quay, where he eventually settled after marrying a local girl, Sarah Tellett at Hawarden Parish Church on 13th August 1815. They raised a family of eight children, so starting the Reney dynasty of Master Mariners, ship owners and entrepeneur."

Thank you both so much, without your help and encouragement I may never have thought to search Mariners databases!

Hi Tecwyn,
I will find out if Hawarden have these records on fiche. If they do I will find out as much as I can for you.
I have first cousins 3 x removed living in the States and I know how much they appreciate having their records looked up.
Cheers

Thanks for that I will ask them in my e-mail. I still think I would like to come up to Cumbria though as I would really like to see the area in which my GGGG Grandfather was born and grew up.

I especially want to see where he would have sailed from and what sort of cargo the ships carried. Do you think the Records office might have some of the ships logs?
