Thats brilliant heywood
it confirms he was married. I do believe I’ve seen that record before many moons ago but didn’t record it or realise how important it was, so the burial record was incorrect. Ive now seen quite a few workhouse records for Walter, Im now going to have a look through the Ireland, Poor Law and Board of Guardian Records, 1839-1920 record for any other Whelan’s at Luke st.

Many thanks

Well thats odd  ??? as i have always thought of her as Mary Ellen now looking back through her records its only on her death/burial records she’s Mary Ellen, her granddaughter my Nan was Mary Ellen & i’ve thought she was named after her, but now you’ve pointed that out i can only see after her death the name Ellen turns up!

Sorry the on burial record - Single age 68y (1818) the person who sorted the grave out was from a hospital & death cert -Married age 72y (1814) so no connection to Bridget or Mary and not sure if he’s single or married. It could very well be him but it unclear.

Her mum Bridget lived at 15 Clarendon St, Dublin 1893 & died 21 Sep 1896 3 Pitt st, Dublin & was buried 23rd Sept Glasnevin age 55y her son in laws on the grave record.
(Mary was also buried at Glasnevin)

There are 2 Walters Whelan deaths i’ve research but neither seems to be quite right -
1. 21 Dec 1886 - Single age 68y (1818) burial record cert differs in age 72y (1814) on death cert Labourer died in workhouse (i have the grave record it also says single)
2. 1865 in Rathdrum age 48 no record online also before daug birth.

Dublin / Mary Whelan help

Hi i was hoping for some help on my ancestor’s, i have her marriage & death records, she’s on the 1901 & 1911 Irish census but i can’t find her birth or any siblings she may of had, her Dad’s kinda elusive also.
Her names Mary Ellen Whelan born between 1868 & 1873 in City of Dublin area.

* Mar record full age
* 1901 - dob abt 1871
* 1911 - dob abt 1873
* Death - dob abt 1868

Her parents where Walter Whelan (death pre jul 1893) (Sailor & Lab) & Bridget (Unknown) 1841-1896

There is a marriage of Walter Whelan & Bridget Mollowney 1855 Dub. My Bridget would have been 14y although that couple did have a daughter called Mary in 1859 i dont think the dates work!

Any suggestions, would be greatly received many thanks in advance.

Good eyes it does look like paid, i thought poss prod.

I’ve looked through the records for that year & some say disp in banns some say 2 & 3 or two of one!

Beside the 2 looks like “do” or “dn” underlined and beside the 3 looks like “to” also underlined!
None of it makes sense to me !

I’m guessing if they were related there would be something written in the next box Impedimentum.
