Family History Beginners Board / Re: Irish Prison Records 1930s/40s

Bit of a followup question re. Patrick Boylan's murder of Norah Whelan [below]
I was wondering if anyone could help follow up on the reprieve from the death sentance he received in 1937? I was recently informed by a relative that Patrick Boylan subsequently moved to the UK and started a family there. Would be great to follow this up because his reprive was for life in prison, so now wondering what happened next?

Hi. I'm wondering if there is a way to search prison records in Ireland. I am looking for Patrick Boylan (born c.1913), who murdered Nora[h] Whelan (born c.1918) in 1936 in Dublin. He was sentenced to death, but received a last minute reprieve on May 6th, 1937. My assumption (right or wrong) is that he would have remained in prison, but I have not been able to find anything beyond the reprieve.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I was wondering if anybody knew how to find prison records for the 1930s/40s. Trying to trace Patrick Boylan who was convicted of the murder of Nora Whelan in 1937, sentanced to death, but then had a reprieve on May 6th 1937. Presumably he remained in prison but I'm hitting a dead end at the moment.

World War One / Soldier died 10 June 1915, Royal Irish Fusilliers
« on: Friday 05 November 10 20:39 GMT (UK)  »
I was hoping someone could help me find more information about a Michael Plunkett from Drogheda who was a private with the Royal Irish Fusilliers 1st Battalion. He died in France/Flanders on 10 June 1915. I have his memorial records but am hoping someone can help me to trace more information about the battalion and the battles they were involved in around this time.

Thanks,

Fiona

His marriage record was apparantly held by the Methodist Church in South Africa and I have been informed that Methodism runs in the family so that seems the most likely to me.

Offaly (Kings) / George Pike, Screggan C.1835

I am looking for information that will help me to locate George Pike born c.1835 in Screggan, Co. Offaly. He moved to South Africa c.1850's, possibly with the army. I have reason to believe that he was Protestant (possibly Methodist). I have no other information at the moment. I am hoping to find his marriage records (which took place in South Africa) but that may be a dead-end. If I were to search for birth records here in Ireland, does anyone know where best to start for protestant records in Offaly?

Thanks

Yes, that's the family. They also had other children, I know of a Patrick and Abbey so far. Many of them emigrated to the US but the 1901 census has Michael, Catherine (Kate) and their son Michael in Lettermore. The 1911 has Kate and her son Michael living in Clare.

I'm tasked with finding the parents of Michael McGrath and Cathering Hickey. I'm now thinking that death records may be the easiest way to do this. I believe I have found Catherine's but i have a quick question, it may sound silly but i just want to double-check:

If she was a widow at the time of her death, would her death be registered under her married name or maiden name? (I'm assuming married name)

Should mention that it was when I was searching Galway (West) - not sure if that makes a difference
