Hi Louisa & Rosie,
Thankyou for your replies, must say researching a family tree is sooooo much better than housework lol.
Am not convinced about the 'Chichester' connection but maybe getting a birth certificate will be the way to go to find out for sure. I have also found Henry Christopher and Catherine (could also be Kate) which made me wonder if this was the right family line.
Thanks again for your help it is very much appreciated
Take care

London and Middlesex / Henry Maurice Joseph FordhamHi
« on: Monday 23 April 12 11:07 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone, am trying to find the birth details of Henry Maurice Joseph FORDHAM , born in April 1900  I know he married Violet May Fredericks in 1930 in Walthamstow London but I would like to get his birth certificate to see if I have his right parents. I know his father was Henry Christopher FORDHAM (from the marriage certificate of Violet and Henry)but am not sure if he (Henry Christopher) married Catherine Soloman. There are so many 'Henry' Fordhams in London it is quite confusing.
Thankyou

Fife / Re: Elizabeth Landale

Hi NorrieG, a bit late inthe day but thankyou for the information regarding Elizabeth Landale but I have  more lol My Great Great Grandfather William Rodger married Margaret Anstruther 1st June 1838. Her parents as far as I can see if I have it right were John Anstruther and Margaret Smith so was Margaret Anstruther illegitimate who was given her fathers name and would it be because of this that Margaret A married a blacksmith, seems a bit lowly considering the pedigree of her father. Is there anywhere where occupations of the people in 1700-1800s can be found. It would be interesting to find out what the occupation of John Landale was considering his daughter marries into the aristocracy.
I keep hoping that a name will pop up which I can tie back to Edinburgh University because apparently a 'Grandfather' was a principal there. I thought the link  may have come from Margaret Smith but don't think so now.
Thankyou so much for all your help I really appreciate it xx

Can anyone shed some light on Elizabeth Landale's parents although I haven't much to go on. I know Elizabrth married Captain Philip Anstruther in 1748  think the banns may have been read in Leuchars. I have googled both their names and tried Scotlands people but didn't find anything definite for Elizabeth

Thank you so much for your reply. I had looked on family search but had only found Margarets birth but didn't show her parents. Is there anywhere which records what people did in the way of work back then apart from the census
I have been looking into the Anstruther family (which Margaret married into) to find out who were the parents of John her husband who was born in 1751 possibly at Inverkeithing Fife. Was he one of the aristocratic Anstruthers or just a minion I wonder, any info would be appreciated. I think you all do an amazing job, it must be so interesting.
Take care

Margaret Smith was born in Leuchars Fifeshire in 1784 and died. in 1855. She married John Anstruther and they had a daughter Margaret Anstruther. I can't find who Margaret Smiths parents were and was John related to the aristocratic Anstruthers of Fife? I hope you will be able to help.

Hi Diddy,
Thankyou so much for finding William for me all I have to do now is fill in the next Five years.I wonder why he didn't show up on my Scotland census searches. Can anyone tap into the National Archives because I haven't been very successful with the few times I have tried. I think my next move is to go to Gloucestershire because he has to have met Harriet somewhere maybe at the same school who knows. Thankyou Diddy you are the bees knees lol  :-*

Hi Diddy,
I should have given you more information, William Junior according to the 1911 England census was born in Leuchars to William Rodger and Margaret Anstruther in 1844.
In 1851 Scotland census he is still with his parents bit after that I can't find him on any census returns until 1866 when he married Harriet Tidmarsh in the parish church of Little Compton Gloucestershire stating on his marriage certificate that he was a Schoolmaster and Harriet a School Mistress. The school they ran was at Harmston near Lincoln although they lived in Revesby. Could he have been at a boarding school or college I wonder.
Hope this helps
