briansoutar, if you in or around Selkirk there is a display currently within the courthouse building with the clock all about the Haining with maps photos and other things like census records etc and i think includes haining Rig.
The courtroom is where Sir Walter Scott sat when he was the local sheriff.

Does anyone have any information on Haining Rig House? It has re-appeared from the cut down forest near Middlestead Farm and Howden farm, on the right hand side as you leave the Golf Course leaving from SELKIRK to HAWICK

Perhaps better if you start a thread for this info, may be quicker.

CarolW & toni*....'tis as I thought in your replies, a dead end.....the birth certificate says husband name as Father, but his occupation is wrong?
So I guess we will never know  ??? ::)

Is there any way to find out who a Father is apart from what is stated on a Birth Certificate? Relative relatives no longer with us.

May seem like a stupid question, but in a family search we have unearthed a mystery.....this would be in 1941

sweepdog. I have a copy of the 1817 census for Selkirk listing all the residents in Water Row and other streets. It was printed in the Border Counties Magazine Vol 1 1880-1881 pgs 161.  I think you would find it  on http;//www.cangenealogy.com/armstrong/selkirk1817.htm

Thank you very much for that information - I've not been able to go back that far yet ;)

Appreciated though
