Family History Beginners Board / Re: Helen Fletcher of Grimsby

Thanks for that I will look into it. I have found an Edward Fletcher on 1841 census living in Flottergate which is close to where John was brought up. Frances is not on the census he is living with his mother Sarah.

Have found out that a John & Sarah Fletcher had 2 children Edward & Ellen in Grimsby. I still can't trace this Ellen either I wonder if she is my Helen? Did she name her son after her father. Edward had a son William who named his children after family members. So it could be the right track.

Helen Fletcher was my G G G Grandma and I am having trouble tracing her.

In 1841 census she is living in Doncaster with John & Jane Stones (I do not know if there is any family connection to them) she is with her 4mth illegitimate son John Fletcher who was born in Doncaster. (Did she go there to have him as she was unmarried?) By 1851 John is living in Grimsby with a William & Elizabeth Denniss and I think Helen is a domestic servant to the Norman family in Sculcoates Hull. I have not been able to trace a birth, death or marriage for her I have John's full history and she doesn't appear with him at all. She was born in Grimsby abt 1821. There is a Joseph Fletcher who was mayor of Grimsby 3 times in the 1820's again I do not know if there is a connection.

Any help/info appreciated thanks

There is also a possible link with Joseph Fletcher who was Mayor of Grimsby 3 times in 1820's.

He is mentioned in 'A Gossip about old Grimsby' imbibing in the inn!

Any info appreciated.

I stumbled across this Fletcher family trying to trace Helen Fletcher of Grimsby.

She is on the 1841 Census living with her 4 mth old illegitimate son John in Doncaster. Who is my G G Grandad.

Possibly on the 1851 Census in Sculcoates Hull as a servant for the Norman family.

Then I get stuck!

Hello
I have just joined RootsChat.
I'm also researching the Fletcher family but not sure yet if it's the same one as yours yet.
I have found Thomas & Mary on the 1841 Census though. Their address is shown as South Rd Waltham. Thomas is 35 and a farmer, Mary is 65 and a widow. They also have a servant Susan Dickenson 12 living with them.
Hope this helps.
