Martin,
Samuel Nevin Hodges DOB 1-1-1887 went to sea as a ship's boy at age 13. Do you know where I can obtain records regarding his time at sea?

Lancashire / Re: Carroll, Lenehan, Hodges families

Thanks to all who are trying to help. Specifically I am trying to locate birth information on Johanna Carroll, sister of Annie Carroll Lenehan. Their parents were James Carroll and Jane Gavney of Ireland .(per Johanna's death certificate in USA). Johanna was also the mother of Samuel Nevin Hodges, son of Robert Hodges. I have a lot of information on the Hodges family from Ireland. I am unable to locate a marriage certificate for Robert Hodges (CoI) and Johanna Carroll(RC). Both of their names appear on the baptism certificate in County Cavan. Robert and Johanna also had a daughter Sophia born circa 1885---in Ireland we believe. But we cannot locate anything but immigration and ship's records for Sophie who also is a Hodges. Knowing that these families also spent time in Lancashire, we hoped we might locate some records there that might help. Johanna used the name Johanna Hodges upon her immigration to the US and thereafter.
Hope this clarifies things.

Lancashire / Carroll, Lenehan, Hodges families

Looking for Johanna Carroll (birth date circa 1870), Annie Carroll, James Carroll, Jane Gavney, and Robert Hodges (Died 1939) and daughter Sophie (Sophia) Hodges (birth circa 1885) who may have resided in the Liverpool, St. Helens area. Families could have been associated with the railroad. James Lenehan and Robert Hodges worked for the railroad between the 1880's and 1930's. Most of these people had ties to Ireland. Samuel Nevin Hodges(DOB 1-1-1887 in Cavan Co., Ireland) resided with his Aunt Annie Lenehan circa 1906 in Lancashire.

Seeking info on Singleton Wilson, baptised 4 Oct. 1807 in Hatfield. Father was John Wilson; mother was Elizabeth. Would like info on possible emigration to US ( maybe settling in Maryland) and info linking him to a son Jacob Henry Wilson. Singleton Wilson may have married a woman born in Wales.

Thanks,

Fermanagh / Re: McCann-Felix and Ann McCann of Enniskillen and descendants

Barry,
If I figure correctly, we are 2nd cousins. I've been pursuing this McCann-Maguire-Hodges connection for a few years along with my first cousin, Sylvia (also granddaughter of Maggie McCann.) We know very little about the McCann family in Ireland other than what we have been able to learn through research. Maggie died in 1922 giving birth to her 4th son. My father Patrick was only 2 at the time, so the boys (3 sons- Louis, Samuel, & Patrick) did not know a great deal about all of the Irish relatives. There were a couple of pictures of John (called Jack) among the family mementoes. So he apparently stayed in contact with my grandfather and grandmother, at least for a while. My grandfather was born in Ireland as well and must have met Maggie there. Later paid for her passage to US, where they were married soon after. His mother and sister had migrated to US (New Orleans) in late 1890's and 1906 respectively. We do have a photo of Maggie taken before 1922. And we would very much like to have copies of pictures you have. I had heard Hugh's name and think that my uncle Sammy may have visited him in the UK during the Second World War. Can you scan these pictures an email them? Or can we pay for copies? You have already told me much more than we knew about the McCann family. We know that Maggie's last address before migrating to US was in Ballsbridge (Dublin) where we assume she may have been working as a domestic.Earlier she worked as a domestic and lived in the household of a Rev. Wilson, a Methodist minister in Enniskillen. My grandfather went to sea at the age of 13 and made his living in the maritime industry until Maggie's death left him with the 3 little boys between the ages of 2-5.If you will let me know how to contact you outside  of Rootschat, perhps, we can share more. I will be visiting Sylvia in a couple of weeks are will be sharing our newfound info. Thanks,
Shirley

B,
Was your great grandfather Felix McCann married to Ann Maguire of Fermanagh? We had almost given up on locating any of this family. Would appreciate having a more indepth conversation with you and would be willing to share what info I have. Felix Junior, I believe, was my grandmother's older brother. Grandmother was Margaret Anne (Maggie) McCann who immigrated to the United States (New Orleans, LA) in 1916, where she married my grandfather Samuel Nevin Hodges.

Cork / Re: KEEFE/CARROLL FAMILY
« on: Thursday 08 November 12 21:51 GMT (UK)  »
I have a James Carroll who married Jane Gaffney(?) in my lineage. Their daughter was Johanna Carroll, my paternal great grandmother. We believe our Carrolls may have been from Cork but are having trouble locating info as well. Johanna Carroll migrated to the United States but we cannot locate immigration records for her but we believe she may have been here as early as 1892-1896. We are researching whether she was have immigrated to Canada firts. She also had a relationship/ marriage (although we cannot locate a marriage record to Robert Hodges of Wicklow. She used the name Hodges and her children as well. Do these Carrolls sound like anyone in your lineage?

Seeking a connection between SINGLETON WILSON, baptized 4 Oct. 1807 in Hatfield, Hertford, England and Jacob Henry Wilson resident of Maryland, US. Jacob's father was a Singleton Wilson, born in England. Singleton's spouse was possibly Anne Pate (Peate) born in Wales. I believe that Singleton and Ann may have been married in Georgia (USA).  This Singleton's father and mother were John Wilson and Elizabeth. I need more info on John and Singleton Wilson and immigration status to US and when.
