Yes that's true, I'll probably go for her mother as she was the last to die, I'll let you know the outcome.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Mary's father Henry Ewart Holland died in Birmingham in 1961 GRO B'ham Mar61 9C 724
Her mother Sarah Holland nee Geering also died in Birmingham, in 1966 GRO B'ham Sept 1966 9c 151

There is a new Govt website listing will/probate records:  probatesearch.service at gov.uk
I've looked on this and not found any record of probate.
There is a Mary Edith Holland for whom probate was issued at Winchester on 24 June 2014, she died 3 April 2014. This is not our person. Local newspapers in Hampshire reported that a Mary Holland was found drowned in Hythe on 3 April 2014. She was aged 87 and a Mary Holland was born in Hampshire in 1927.

I've found the Probate Search website very useful. The free index lists the exact date and address at time of death and often the recipients of the estate.

Thanks for your help.
I've had another scout around possible marriages - as you know there are several - but none leaps out. No hard link found between a death quoting a date of birth and any of the possible married names.

This is the 1939 Register entry for 43 Barrows Road:

FIRST NAME(S)   LAST NAME(S)   DOB   SEX   OCCUPATION   MARITAL STATUS   SCHEDULE   SCHEDULE SUB NUMBER
Henry E   Holland   09 Mar 1887   Male   Auto Tool Setter   Married   201   1
1 more person who is officially closed
Sarah   Holland   17 Jan 1884   Female   Unpaid Domestic Duties   Married   201   2
1 more person who is officially closed
Ernest W   Holland   26 Feb 1924   Male   Junior Machinist Engineer   Single   201   4

I suspect that one of the "officially Closed" people is Mary Ann Edith. Trouble is that I cannot get her "unlocked" without proof of death. Not found under her maiden name, if she married I don't know who to. Hence Catch 22, unless I wait two years when she would be 100 and deemed most likely to be dead!

Thanks for your interest

Thanks for the comments.
I've done all sorts of searches on the 1939 register including Occupation: Singer etc.
None of the suggestions (thanks for them) are at all likely. The Mary Ann Bennett who died in Swansea in 1977 was in 1939 at 30 Ceri Rd Swansea, married unpaid domestic duties.
Let's keep plugging away!

Does anyone know more about this person?
She was my First Cousin twice removed.
I know for certain that she was born on 16 July 1918 at 43 Barrows Road Aston. I have the Registration Certificate from Aston in Birmingham: Father Henry Ewart Holland Toolmaker; mother Sarah nee Geering. Birth is also on GRO Aston 1918 3Q 6d 559.
According to family recollections her mother Sarah was a Professional Mezzo Soprano Singer with the City of Birmingham Choir and it is said that Mary Ann Edith was also a professional opera? singer.
Mary Ann Edith's parents are well documented, but apart from her birth details I have found absolutely no information about their daughter Mary Ann Edith.
It is possible that she was with her parents when the 1939 Register was taken. The parents are at 43 Barrows Road with a son Ernest b 1924. One other person is not shown, possibly Mary as she is less than 100 years old.
Any further info would be gratefully appreciated.

Updated Request. Thank you Capetown for your information, fills many gaps. Looks as though poor Hannah Stiles died as a result of birth of her 10th child in 22 years.
My record of the marriage of John Bevington to Ann Castles (Cassells) at Claines in 1820 looks wrong. The date is probably about right, but Ann & the children born around then were all at WSE. 25 miles from Claines. No info found on John's birth (1798?) apart from burial at WSE in 1833 age 35. Any advice much appreciated

It's a rather complicated Jigsaw puzzle of where various children associated with William Gould came from and I'd appreciated any comments or corrections to my deductions as well as any additions.
William was possibly baptised on 3 Feb 1790 at St Lawrence Church Evesham, the son of Samuel & Sarah Gould.

A church record from Weston Sub Edge Gloucestershire has a marriage of William Gould widower to an Ann Bevington widow on 29 Dec 1836.
The 1841 census has them at Weston Sub Edge together with children Joshua b 1829; Alfred b 1831; Caroline b 1838. There are also Isabella Bevington b 1826 and John Bev. b 1831.

In 1851 William was a widower at WSE with Alfred b 1830 and daughter Caroline b 1838

There is a burial record for a William Gould at WSE on 17 Mar 1871. His wife Ann was buried on 27 Aug 1845 at WSE.

In addition the Weston Sub Edge Parish Register, has a baptism on 1 Mar 1818 of David Bevington, mother Ann Castles, a spinster. David was my great X2 Grandfather and this led me to find out more about his origins.
His mother Ann was possibly baptised on 23 Sept 1792 at Mickleton which is about 3 miles from WSE. She married a John Bevington, possibly at Clains near Worcester on 3 Jan 1820. As well as David, she had six children with John: Joshua 1820; Isabella 1823; and John 1831. In addition she had an earlier John in 1825; Emanuel in 1822 and Ann 1831. These all died before 1841.

John Bevington was buried on 12 Dec 1833 in WSE. and his wife Ann subsequently married William Gould a widower as noted in 1836 at WSE

Now where did children Alfred; Joshua b abt 1829 & Caroline noted in the 1841 census come from? William Gould was married to someone before Ann and Hannah Styles appears to fit. Hannah was baptised on 4 Mar 1792 at WSE and married a William Gould at the age of 16 on 6 Feb 1809 at Willersey, a couple of miles from WSE.

WSE Parish records have William & Hannah Gould as parents of a Joshua Bap. 1827 and Alfred in 1830. Willersey Parish records also have them as parents of Eliza, Bap. 1810. Eliza probably married and left her parents before the 1841 census.
Hannah was buried on 14 Aug 1832 at WSE, leaving William to marry Ann in 1836.

That leaves Caroline b 1838 to account for - the WSE parish records have her baptised on 31 Jul 1837, parents William & Anne.

So that just about seems to complete the jigsaw puzzle of where the various children originated. However my question is that after having Eliza at the age of 16 in 1810, there is a big gap before Hannah Gould nee Stiles has her next child Joshua in 1827. Have I got something wrong in my deductions? Note that publicly available Family Tree information on Ancestry appears to contain anomalies and has no mention of Hannah Styles.

Hello Jomot
Thanks for your comments.
I have had a delve around on FindmyPast and found the following. Made more complicated by various miss spellings of Geering and the fact that Middlesbrough is in North Yorkshire whereas Stockton is across the river in Co Durham.
I found a baptism record for Helen Geering, listed as Garing on 16 July 1891 in Middlesbrough. Father named as John a labourer, mother Dorothy Catherine of Fidler St.
The 1891 Census for Middlesbrough has at Fidler Street John Guring (Bad transcription, original image says Geering) Labourer b 1853, wife Dorothy, both born Kent and son Charles b Middx.
So there was a different Geering family in the Teesside are in the 1890s but not easy to find. It appears that "My" George Geering kept his pants on for a change when he was possibly still in that area in the late 1980s. His life has given us a good old run around!

Thanks very much folks for your contributions, very much appreciated. My jigsaw puzzle of George Geering's life is now pretty much complete.
I have now followed through Nellie Geering's life after she married Charles Ward by using the info on the 1911 census & 1939 Register when they were living in Burton on Trent. They both died there in 1969.
I have found that the 1939 Register is a great key for opening up a whole range of information about people.
Thank you Bookbox for your comments on information in the Probate records - point taken
The Helen Geering b 1891 mentioned by Jomot is different to "my" Nellie Geering. I got Nellie's birth cert from Stockton Reg Office two or three weeks ago and it confirms that she was the daughter of "my " George Geering and Sarah Geering nee David, born 29 Jan 1882
