Have you considered the DNA route?

Yes, I'm thinking this is my next option! Thank you

Thank you very much!! Perhaps he either lied to my grandmother for the reasons of marrying the other woman or perhaps the other woman said she was pregnant and wasn't? Who knows! But his birth year and the year he was married seems to be closer in line to what I was looking for, so thank you.

Looks like baby Sweet (whom I won't name) may have been born in Holborn?

Yes, my grandmother, Jean Sweet was born in Holborn, as was my mother L (H's daughter). I was told he was welsh, but again, not sure if that's true. I imagine if he was alive he could be anything from mid 80's to mid 90's in age.

England / Help me find my grandfather! H S
« on: Monday 07 January 19 14:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all, this is a massive long shot as I know next to nothing about this man, only that he's my grandfather, his name H S and that he fathered my mother in 1950's. He met my grandmother, Jean Sweet (who died early via hit and run in London) and she got pregnant by him, but around the same time he got another woman pregnant and because the other woman told him first, he married her. I'm not even sure if he ever knew about my mum at all. Obviously his other child is very likely to still be alive and have kids of his/her own.

So the only info I have is that he would have been married around 1950's and his name is H S. Apparently he was a red arrow, but not sure if that was true.

Thank you in advance for any info you're able to provide - I know this is a long shot!

Thank you! Well that explains the story behind Ann Elizabeth Causley's family not being happy she wed William, if she was just a minor!

Where did you get Rebecca as her mothers name?  The only 1871 entry with a mother Rebecca & father William was born in Hunslet Yorkshire

Marriages March qtr 1858
Causley    Anne Elizabeth         Kensington
Smith    William         Kensington    1a   81

One of the witnesses on the 1888 marriage appears to be Ann Elizabeth Smith - William is shown as deceased

Rebecca was just a name that was passed down as being Kate's mothers name. I may have well been something different.

Quote
Born as Kate Florence Smith to a William Smith and mother's name is Rebecca. To help, I know Kate was married to John Sweet on 21/2/1888. Kate later re-married to a George Miller.

When was she born and where?  freebmd has 2 births for that name - 1859 and 1869 - both old enough to have married in 1888

From the correct birth reg - you can get Rebecca's maiden name and trace the marriage to find her fathers name and occupation

That will enable you to search for her pre-marriage to see whether the story of her background is true

Hiya, the info I have says she was 19 when she married, so that would make her birth year 1869
