Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: William Bratharick of Filkins
« on: Tuesday 17 May 11 14:09 BST (UK)  »
Thank you very much for taking an interest in my family tree.

My source of information is the OFHS CD that contains the transcription of the Alvescot PRs.  The entry for November 24 1782 states:

FLETCHER Jane, daughter of James and Ann
FLETCHER Lucy, daughter of James and Ann

however it is still quite possible that there an error occured between in trancription from handwritten record to typewritten record or even when the handwritten record was made - although less likely as if they were twins it would have been a more memorable occurance!

Other entires in the Alvescot PRs batisms are:

June 14 1778  FLETCHER Sarah, daughter of James and Ann
June   4 1780 FLETCHER Joseph, son of James and Ann

and Burials:

December 16 1781 FLETCHER Joseph, son of James and Ann.

Going back to the Jane who was apparently married to William (if only I could find evidence of a marriage), in the 1841 census she is living with William the younger and his family as well as her daughter Elizabeth and  her name has been transcribed as Jame! And furthermore, that what it looks like on the handwritten original.

Thanks once again to anyone who has taken an interest in this search, bbuster..

Thanks very much Glen for that information and I will let you know how I get on - however I am very slow at getting round to things so it could be several months before I get onto to it.  The spring weather is a big distraction!

Happy hunting, Bbuster..

Thanks Glen that's really helpful.  What I will need now is a tutorial on how to order copies of the relevant papers and some idea of the cost - a visit is out of the question as I live in the UK.  Any guidance gratefully received, Bbuster..

Thanks Glen for replying.
I have seen these entries on that site and have wondered why they were there as I am fairly sure that Enoch and Beatrice died in England in 1949 and 1950 respectively.  Does it mean that they still had interests in SA?  Before asking someone to look at these entries have you (or anyone else) any idea what information they may contain - the fact that I'm really interested in is the names of Beatrice's parents -something I hope their marriage certifcate would contain if I could locate it.
Grace definitely died in SA and there is an entry in the data base for that.

Once again thanks for your interest, best regards, Bbuster..

PS. Another strange fact is that Enoch & Beatrice and there 3 young daughters made a visit to England in 1916 for 3 months right in the middle of WW1!  I wonder what was so important that they undertook such a dangerous trip.

South Africa / Enoch Brailsford and Beatrice Annie Mason
« on: Wednesday 09 March 11 16:51 GMT (UK)  »
Enoch and Beatrice traveled separately to South Africa from England in about 1907.  Beatrice was accompanied by her sister-in-law to be, Grace Brailsford.  In 1909 Enoch and Beatrice were living in Braamfontein, Johanesburg where the first of their three daughters was born in 1909, I have the birth certificate for that daughter.

I am trying to  trace the marriage of Enoch and Beatrice.  Any help and guidance would be gratefully received.

Enoch, Beatrice and their 3 daughters returned to England in 1923, while Grace stayed in South Africa.

Regards, Bbuster..

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Burleydam Records
« on: Monday 28 February 11 10:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everybody.  I am trying to confirm the following marriage, which according to the grooms' military record took place at Burleydam on 10 October 1910.  The groom was James Brodrick and the bride Mary Painter.  I have been unable to find any other record of the marriage - all help gratefully received, thanks Bbuster..

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Re: Sarah from Brancaster
« on: Wednesday 23 February 11 15:40 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks once again for looking. I agree the only way forward is to see a birth certificate to confirm her maiden name.  I did come across two possible Sarahs if she did indeed come from Brancaster, in the 1861 census there is a Sarah Greeves age 6 living in London Street, Brancaster and in the 1871 census a Sarah Grieves age 17 living at Bellamys Farm as a servant.  Most likely the same person.

Thanks for your help, I'll keep searching!

Bbuster..
