Ireland / Re: Wright Family? Maybe from Dublin?
« on: Saturday 03 October 15 14:07 BST (UK)  »
I have made a tiny bit of progress, as I took advantage of the freebie weekend on FindmyPast
recently.

There was an obituary for Caroline Carmichael nee Wright, which described her as the last surviving daughter of James Wright, of the Leeds Woollen Hall, Corn-Market, Dublin.  I believe James to have been from Leeds himself.  He married Catherine Freeman in 1835, but Caroline and her brothers
were born years earlier (C. c1820) so it's probably that there was an earlier wife.

James died at Lisnaskea, 1853.

I seem to see an Edward Wright later associated with the Woollen Hall....does he ring bells with anyone, was he Caro's brother?

Hi

I am looking for more info on the family of Ann Bainbridge, who married James Watson.
As far as I know, she was born in Stanhope in 1747 and died on Christmas Day 1825.  She is buried in Stanhope Churchyard.  Her father may have been Joseph.  Her sons (there may have been more than these two) were John and Thomas.

Dublin / Re: Rathgar Road (then ) Co.Dublin

My Gt Gt grandfather, Hugh Carmichael, was, I believe, the architect for Pearlmount Terrace, Rathgar Road.  His daughter, who came to South Africa, was born there.  However, I still can't find the houses on Google....are they still there?
PS. Still looking for info on his wife Caroline Wright.....if anyone should have some wild and crazy revelations.  I have a photo of her and her name and that's all!

Dublin / Caroline Wright m. Hugh Carmichael of Dublin

I am looking for the history of Caroline Wright.  Her first child was born in around 1845 - so I guess they got married in the early 1840s.  Hugh was quite a well-known architect and the Carmichael family seem to have been well-known in Dublin.  However, I only have a photo of Caroline, her children's names and the fact that she died in 1869.  There is the name Freeman, used as a second name for one of her daughters and that of her son's child - so perhaps it is linked to the Wrights, as it's not in the Carmichael tree as far as I know.

Hi again Shane,

The only one I know of thus far is Jamesina's, which was on the 3rd March 1852, at St Nicholas Without, Dublin.

I will see if I can find any others on the 'net.

Best regards

Tess

Hi Shane,

Thanks for your reply.

My guess is that the Carmichaels were Church of Ireland, as Jamesina - my Gt Gran - was christened at St Nicholas Without, Dublin - which was C of I.

The surgeon - Hugh Richard Carmichael - was his uncle.

I have no idea where Caroline Wright came from or whether they got married in Ireland, let alone Dublin.  From Jamesina's "Reminiscences" they must have been
a reasonably well-off family - as she made pointed observations about the Irish obsession with maintaining appearances - even when the money'd run out.  This did not refer to her own family, but to some neighbours - who had the dining room
beautifully lit and the table laid with all its finery.  This was visible from the street, however, they drew the curtains before the meal was served as they actually ate in the kitchen, because they no longer had serving staff etc.  Shame - dignity before all else!

As all the Irish Census records, for the period that would have helped me, have been destroyed  - I'm not quite sure where to go from now.

Best regards

Tess

Amanda - How do you connect to the Wright/Rixons.  Peter is my fiance and Jack, Molly and Alan are or were the older generation!

Ireland / Wright Family? Maybe from Dublin?
« on: Wednesday 29 December 10 19:59 GMT (UK)  »
Caroline Wright married Hugh Carmichael of Dublin.  He died in 1860 and she in 1869.   I am well able to follow the history of the Carmichael side of the family but thus far have had no luck with the Wrights...Anyone with any clues?
