She was registered as McClane and died on 22 May 1884. The informant was her son-in-law W John Sloan.

Yes. sorry! My bad. That's exactly right. Now I just need to figure out where she's interred.

Just wondering if anyone might have access to the Roscommon Herald archives to see if any information could be found in Susan (Houston) McLean's obituary. She died 27th May 1884 in Boyle and is listed as a widow on the death cert so her husband Samuel obviously died before her and presumably she may be buried in the same cemetery as him.

I'm going back to Boyle this weekend with my cousin and we're going to look in The Church Of Ireland graveyard to see if we can find them there. After that, I really don't know where to look as they weren't in Ardcarne either.

Help?

Sorry - don't have anything further on the Sloan family tree - my interest is on the Webb side as Sheila Mallagh who married Terence was a Webb. Wondering if you might have a photograph of Terence or know Juliet's ( his daughter) married name?

Thanks

I don't have a photograph of Terence but have sent you the name of Juliet's husband via DM.

Welcome to RootsChat, Susan W  :)

Can't remember how many posts you need before I can message you privately. Three? Maybe four?

Susan W needs to make at least one more post for you to send a private PM.

Thank you!

Hi Trish - I though i was responding to Fiona.  do you have the family tree ? Susan

Sorry. Without a quote from Fiona I thought it was a general response. No re: the Mallagh family tree. I have the Sloan branch, because as you may know, two of William John Sloan's daughter's married into the Mallagh family.

Margaret Knox Sloan married Thomas Henry Mallagh and they had three children:
Margaret Sheila Mallagh
Doreen Elizabeth Mallagh
Dennis John Mallagh

Bertha Sloan married Joseph Mallagh and they had two children:
Terence John Sloan Mallagh
Moira Margaret Sloan

My great grandfather was their brother, John, who died in India. So, if you would like more information on that side of the tree or have any information you can share...  :)

Fiona - I am Sheila Mallagh's niece and would be interested in contacting you re the family tree. My father Ivan was Sheila's brother.

That would be great Fiona! Can't remember how many posts you need before I can message you privately. Three? Maybe four? Hopefully one of the moderators can tell us.  :)

I'm looking for more information on Sophia Mary Hannah who died in England 1939.  I wondered if anyone has more information on her birthplace in Kells Co Antrim, 1884 as well.  She would be my great grandmother.

Hi Linda,

Delighted to meet you! Sophia was my great grandmother's sister and my great grandmother and her daughter frequently visited Sophia and another sister who both emigrated within a few years of each other.

I have a lot of research on the Hanna family and would love to swap information with you if you are willing.

Down / Re: William John SLOAN born Co. Down abt 1836

William John Sloan
Birth Date: 2 July 1833

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F513-V6R

Appreciate the hint but this is definitely not him. Our William John Sloan moved to Boyle in Co. Roscommon, married a local girl and lived there all his life. Also his father is listed as John on the wedding cert and they named their first son John after him. It's where in Co. Down William John came from we get stuck.

Now we know his sister also lived in Boyle for a while prior to emigrating the assumption is William John possibly visited her there, met the woman he would marry and then chose to move.

Hi from Australia,
Wondering if anyone could assist with finding a gravestone(s) in the Assylinn Graveyard.
I found an excert from the Roscommon Herald showing that Mary Sloan (Mary Ann McLean) d.1914 was interred at the Assylinn Graveyard. Also if her Mother, Susan McLean (Huston) and father, Samuel McLean may be there as well.
Many Thanks

Hi Peter,

Mary Anne (McLean) Sloan was my great great grandmother. Along with my cousin, we visited Boyle and Assylinn in August 2022 where we found the family plot and laid flowers. We also searched for McLeans there as her father Samuel and mother Susan also died in Boyle but were unable to find them. Hoping I can attach pics of the Sloan grave here but if not may need to email them to you.
