South Africa / Re: Mrs. Annie Griffiths
« on: Thursday 20 August 09 16:59 BST (UK)  »
I am wondering whetherr Annie's maiden name was Walsh . I guess that if I can find an Annie Walsh on a ship to South Africa Then I will have solved my mystery . I do have a record  of Annie Griffiths returning to England in 1930.

South Africa / Mrs. Annie Griffiths
« on: Friday 05 June 09 16:08 BST (UK)  »
During the 1920's Annie Griffiths ran a  hotel somewhere in South Africa with her husband . I don't know when or where they married , but I believe she was born ca 1880 in Lancashire . Her husband may have been called Jim. He left her some time during the '20's and she was supposed to have been "wooed" by the chairman  of S African Railways .She wouldn't marry him because  she was a good Catholic .
Annie returned to England in January 1931 .
Can anyone help me discover her maiden name ands birthplace
Thank you
Linden

Thank you Gale that would be interesting . Did you find her 2nd marriage ? I'm surprised she wasn't in touch with her brother or his family.

Hello Gale

I think I heard about the hotel from an English Stray .  If I remember , he said that some of her clothes were sent back to England when she died . Do you think there might be some registration of  the hotel ? And I'm not sure whether it might have been with the 2nd husband .
Do letme know if you discover anything else!

Cavan / Re: 1821 Census for Co. Cavan
« on: Thursday 01 January 09 11:03 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks Aghadowey .
The National Archives in Dublin suggested from the naming pattern , that my family might have come from Killeshandra .
Cavan Archives looked for the baptism of Lawrence Leddy in the 1820's but they didn't find him , so I'm beginning to think I will be unlucky .
I've  thought of spending a day there , but I can't think what I would be able to find .

Oh dear , there  are a lot of them !
I have had   the Cavan  archives look at parish records for the county and they didn't turn up there either . I guess if I could also discover which parishrecords were missing it might narrow the field .

Cavan / 1821 Census for Co. Cavan
« on: Saturday 27 December 08 18:49 GMT (UK)  »
The surviving 1821  census for Cavan  is fairly extensive but I haven't found my Leddy family . So I wondered if anyone can help me approach it from a  different angle .
Does anyone know which Cavan parishes are MISSING from  the 1821 census ?
