Dear Thor,
I am descended from James McVey's brother Daniel. I have researched the family from the Ireland side. The McVeighs in Tyrone told me that James did not pay the rent and refused to go, so the landlord came with armed men and evicted him by burning the house down. I take that with a grain of salt.
He was born to Daniel and Ann McVey about 1844 the oldest of 5 brothers: James, Daniel, Patrick, Owen, and Hugh.
Married Feb 2, 1878 in St. Joseph's Ederney Fermanagh.
April 10, 1885 James was given the 100 acre farm at Gortnasole by his father Daniel Sr.
Feb 14, 1888: Mortgage overdue to Charles E.R.A. Irvine Esq of Enniskillen.
June 21, 1888: Henry F. Leachman gets judgment in Dublin against James for 16 pounds.
James' last child John was born in Gortnasole on Dec 22, 1889. That probably was why James delayed so much.
Then James must have been evicted.
In the 1901 census his daughter Rose was missing.
