Canada Lookup Request / Re: Thomas Coupland to Canada

Hi. Still a bit confused where Thomas was born as on census he says from Kirkheaton but all the records say he was born Kirkby malzeard  if his father was William and mother Mary Prest.
I now live in Halifax but from  Huddersfield

Canada Lookup Request / Re: Thomas Coupland to Canada

Hi . Thank you for the reply. The info i have is that John Henry married Mary Elizabeth Marshall and had a son called Gordon 1912-1982 who married Lillan Pullman and had a child who is still living ?. Do you know what happened to John Henrys brothers and sister ie Thomas jnr, Elizabeth and William Henry. Also if you have any further it would be great as i have no photos at all of Thomas and of his first 2 marriages and kids. Still cant find out where he was buried but i believe he died in Huddersfield in 1951 but my dad and all his brothers/sisters have no memories of his death at all !!.
Couplands Boats for Leisure at Colnebridge was going at the turn of the century as someone recalled boat Sam in an article i read but have no idea who Sam was. Thomas snr and my dads family was brought up at the river and the boats but that was the 1920s onwards. Thomas Snr also was a coal merchant.  Still trying to fit you in the tree as you i presume are Thelma Coupland from Mirfield so you must be Gordons daughter ?.  It is quite strange that my dad told us the story of Toms first wife that when she died was put in a glass case for several weeks which we all thought was strange but hearing about the story of that she wasnt buried for 6 weeks does make sense now. Its like a jigsaw putting all the pieces together.Look forward to hearing from you.

I have been searching for thomas Coupland for many years without much look. My father Brian had a father called Thomas who owned Couplands Pleasure Boats in the 1930s who used to live in Canada. It sounds like the same person. He married Annie in 1926 and had several more children including my Dad Brian ( born 1928 ). they lived at Colne Bridge Huddersfield and hired out ex lifeboats on the river. Thomas must have died later than 1945 as he had a son born that year Clifford. Seems strange he married at 66 and had a further 6 children .From the stories i have been told and the dates from research it all fits in. If anybody can tell me any more or have pictures i will be most grateful. Robert
