Family History Beginners Board / Re: O'Toole family mystery
« on: Saturday 28 March 20 08:41 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you so much!!

I'll play around with this and see if I can figure out where I've gone wrong. There can't be two Bartholomew Tooles who married the same name 30 years apart.....I've taken a wrong turn somewhere.

This looks like the same family but I'm a little confused and hope that some of you who are a lot more experienced than I am can help me figure this out.

Ellen Toole married Richard Manly in Rathmines, Dublin in 1871. Their children have the same family names as the Tooles in this original post. Ellens marriage certificate lists her father as Bartholomew Toole a carpenter. I also found a church record listing all the names in Latin. Richard is called Richardus, Ellen is called Elenora and her parents are listed as Bartholomew Toole and Maria Moran. Based on the death record she was born around 1847. I found a birth for Ellen Manly to Bartholomew Toole  (carpenter) and Mary Moran in August 1846.

Where I'm confused is that I also find birth records for children of Bartholomew and Mary Moran in the 1860's and 1870's.

They can't possibly be the same people. However Tooles and Manlys are both sponsors or witnesses over a couple of generations. I think Ellen who married Richard Manly is a separate generation but where is the connection?

Any help is very much appreciated... thank you for reading this.

Wowwwww...thank you so much everyone for helping me out with this little mystery.

Shanew.....that's Patrick alright so I now have a confirmed date of birth for him and some of the baptisms you found are members of his family.  Charles seems to be a family name as there are a few of them.  As we know the godparents names always keep coming up and are sometimes family members so I'll keep an eye out for repeats of those names. - thanks!!  I can't believe how much this family travelled back and forth and how many different states they were in because it's a large family and some of the kids were born in New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Shellyesq ...thanks ...that's definitely Charles going back and forth.  And a new website that I hadn't found yet that I'll check out further with some of the other names!!!!

And Heywood I'll look up those two marriages and see can I find any further info there.  Perhaps it will list Patrick as deceased and answer my question as to why he didn't come back to Ireland with them.

Cheers everyone...love this site

Meath / Patrick Sillery of County Meath and Drogheda
« on: Friday 01 July 11 06:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi.......can anyone help me find out what happened to an elusive member of the family or does anyone know anything about him and his family?

Patrick Sillery born late 1849 early 1850. Place of birth is unconfirmed but other family members were born around Dunroe, Nobber, County Meath.  However the family has alot of connections with the U.S. - New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio so perhaps he was not born in Ireland at all?  I don't know how to find out anything about U.S. births.

I know that his parents were Charles Sillery and Mary Cahill.  I'm told that siblings were Francis, Jane -1843 Ireland, John - 1844 Ireland, Anne, Mary -1847 Ohio, Joseph -1851 Ireland,Charles 1854 New Jersey and James 1855 New York but I have yet to prove all of this.  It sure seems like a lot of back and forth at a time when travel would have been expensive and taken a long time.

Patrick Sillery married Mary McVeigh (on her baptism her family name was spelled as McEvee)in 1878 in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland. Their children were Mary Anne(1879), John/Jack (1880) and Alice (1882) - all born in Drogheda, County MEATH.

In 1887 Mary, Mary Anne, Jack and Alice are found on the Boston bound passenger lists on a ship called the Roman that departed from Liverpool, England. There is no sign of Patrick on the ship so perhaps he is in the U.S.

In 1901 Mary, Mary Anne, Jack, Alice and now with an additional child - Patrick Jr (born circa 1887 in the U.S. based on census dates) are back in Ireland living with her brother and there is no sign of Patrick Sillery Senior.  By 1911 I can't find the family although Mary Anne and Alice were old enough to be married and I know that Alice did stay in the Drogheda area and marry.

Can anyone help discover what happened to Patrick?

Thanks!!!

Meath / Re: BINGHAM FAMILY

Drogheda is situated in both County Louth and County Meath.  Traditionally St.Peter's serviced the Louth side of town and St.Mary's the Meath side of town but that's no longer the case.

In my own research I have seen peoples place of birth written as County Meath but it turns out that they lived in the town of Drogheda but on a street that was "deemed" to be in Drogheda, County Meath or more importantly within the parish of St.Mary's.

Good Luck.

Louth / Curran and McVeigh of Drogheda - Gravestone Lookup
« on: Saturday 04 June 11 03:02 BST (UK)  »
Hello again.

Would anyone mind doing a gravestone lookup for me once again ....please  :)  The gravestones are such a wealth of information but it's hard to find out stuff when you live overseas.

This time around I'm looking for the graves of Peter McVeigh (spellings vary from McVeigh/McVey/McEvey) born 1852 and died 1914 and his wife Mary McVeigh nee Meath/Meadthe/Meade (spellings vary) born 1856 died 1904.  They are shown in the 1901 Census as living in Yellowbatter and the 1911 Census as living in Newtown Stalavan St. Laurence Gate, Louth.

I forgot to mention that there is a chance that Peter may be buried with his father William McVeigh (spellings vary) - 1833 to 1885 and his mother Margaret McVeigh nee Rogers - 1832 to 1898 and maybe even her father John Rogers.

Also Patrick Curran born in 1821 and died in 1909 and his wife Anne Curran nee Cassidy - dates unknown.  They lived in the Mell area.

Thank you very, very much.

Hi there,
D'Altons book of Drogheda published in 1844 mentions the Peppers.  It says that Ben-Head was the seat of the Pepper family of Mosney and that prior to the confiscations of 1641 this was the estate of the Nettervilles and was granted by Charles the Second to Captain George Pepper whose descendent Colonel Pepper was the current inheritor.  No information about your family but this may help you with regards to dates.

Good Luck,
Wendy
